same matrix, same midi functions, changing banks, etc. just 100% the same (layout, everything) just without the light feedback.
then tell me; what would you do with it when all lights are off?

complete dealbreaker for me at least, specially #2. I also dont care about monome functionality, but can see how others would like it for seqeuncing and such. As a converted DJ I absolutely need tactile control and the feedback of physical knobs and faders and such. APC is still IMO far and away the best live controller, and my laptop APC and and asst. gear still fits in the right bag and weighs less then LP crates.

There is a niche for this, and a market given the affordable price. However, this has to be used in conjunction with something else though, and if thats your plan get a padkontrol or something with velocity sensitivity. I looked into various novation gear, liked the zero mkII a bit, but the general build quality and feel is sub-par. APC feels like a 1000 piece of equipment i got for 400, and its more functional then 2 of these.

APC should have nothing to fear, and all you who cancelled your orders and are getting this........you'll regret it i think.

Thanks for your 2 cents, ass-hat!!! nobody really cares what you need or like. first off, the APC does not in anyway feel like a $1000 piece of gear. secondly, perhaps this is exactly what some guys are looking for, which seems to be the case judging by a lot of posts here. so take your tactile control and stick it up your ass!!! btw, i too have an apc40 and i love it, but it would be cool to have something i could easily take with me anywhere that electrical outlets are not readily available, like for instance an airplane or a bus or subway or train or a fucking rickshaw for that matter. so, clearly, there are some advantages to this device that you just haven't considered. and clearly because of those, there is a market for this device.

playing live with it, like i play my keyboard, or drums.

triggering clips and triggering scenes, changing volumes... just without disco.

i just personally don't need visual feedback... and i know many others who don't, loads or most do... so i always said, switchable would be nice, having the choice... again, especially for the APC, there because it can / could be bus powered, the problem is that the leds take to much juice, and i for my person would love to have it bus powered and no lights instead... the PSU is for me such a major, massive not to tolerate drawback. << to me!!!

the APC would be great if you could use it "as is" and have a switch to switch the disco off and then use it via USB power instead of the PSU, i would like that, yes!

To all you naysayers. go away, I WILL have flashing lights and believe me, where I'm playing out, the crowd are going to be fucking whooping when they see the lights. Whooping I tell you.

If the APC is too big to move around, what about something the size of a guitar? Is that too big as well?
come on you know what I mean...
You want to DJ/perform (whatever) in a club, you dont have lots of time to set up your stuff, there is already CDJ and a mixer on the table... The APC is as big as a mixer. For example, one of my friend wanted to DJ with his korgzero4, the people in charge said "no", use the mixer provided by the club.

Off course if you bring a guitar, that means you do a different type of show, hence, there will be no problem. Same thing, is you are a popular DJ or popular artist, you can bring whatever you want.
but for random performance in club, you prefer something small and USB powered.

thats what I thought.. so basicly nothing that cannot be done with any other pad or key matrix..

YES, that is it!

of course a guitar or drums are wicked on a stage, but a DJ booth is still to 80% a nightmare and hardly enough space to place a laptop somewhere...
that is why i don't understand that those items don't have a bloody HOLE in the bottom like the PadKONTROL to be able to place it onto a 1210 platter, those, i mean 1210s are still everywhere in any DJ booth and if you do not use them, they are space wasters! ugly space wasters! and only Korg so far thought about it and you can place easy a PadKONTROL onto a turntable platter without it wobbling on the spindle, because they left a fucking HOLE in the bottom to stick it over the spindle, and it's even placed / positioned in a way that it does not rotate on the platter, it sits tight along the turntable ARM... and does not move!!! it can't be so difficult, can it?

what are all those office people doing?, why can't they construct something with people who are actually using it?, and then people wonder about ritchy hawtin and NI, at least he knows what a performer / dj really needs!

end of rant!

This is an absolute deal breaker for me!

I was *massively* dissapointed to find out the novations automap 3 pro software cannot automap to native live devices. However, this new launchpad thing comes with automap and says that it controls lives devices - - - does this mean that we will finally be able to use automap on native live devices???

8O :? 8O
from what I understand, launchpad will not need automap to work with Live. And, me too, I was disapointed at first with my nocturn, to see that effects were not autmoatically mapped to it. But then I learn to midi map manually, only what I need to map. And I believe it will be the same deal with the launchpad. Execpt mixer and drumrack, there is another page called user 2 that you can midi map yourself.

I still love my APC, cause I have nothing to map. And for me that's great cause I really hate mapping stuff when "I-want-to-make-music-and-use-my-effects-but-I-need-to-midi-map-everything-first".
Anyway the APC is way too big to move it around. for me it's like a personal mixing desk.
And the launchpad looks super intersting to take with your laptop in your bag. And it's cheap.

Edit : here is a vid explaining user modes : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEhsEu3NnLM
You do not need Automap installed to run the LP with Live. Though I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to install it... I find it pretty useful for lots of different things....
