Some kind of VST timer to alert you to when food that's cooking is ready.
The amount of pots / food i've burnt due to being in a production time warp is unbelivable

oddly enough, I think automation is my final gripe really - I think it would be fair to say I'm 85% happy with Live overall - I have been using Logic a little lately and I think it's brilliant and has come a long way, but there is also a lot of really frustrating things about it that I really notice after so long with Live

like sonar's v-studio, ableton should come up with hardware dsp acceleration, with a high quality mixer, eq, and dynamics.
with it's awesome freezing tech, live has the potential to have the best sound quality daw ever made without hacking, because it could be possible to use hardware for everything.

ALSO

8 seems to be terrible graphics wise in terms of snappieness, turning filters on and off in sampler also causes a huge sound and sometimes crashes the whole darned program. Cant think of much else.

I feel like I'm dumb because the first answer I get it is nothing 8O
However as a second thought it would be nice if Live would have:
1. More Mastering effects to finalize mixes in an easier way
2. Enhanced MIDI management (MIDI file type 0,1 import/export)
3. Enhanced MIDI event editor

Nevertheless I guess most of this can be achieved by using M4L when it'll be out.
I like the way Live is today, with L8 they put more usable presets and building blocks
in the Library. What captured me is still there and it was workflow, clean interface
(I do not need unnecessary GUI emulation of real world hardware) session view and integration
with Arrangement view. Now with L8 and M4L coming Live is destined to become the best
creative platform ever. No need to change and if this means that Live is not a DAW,
well, I do not care how is called if it fulfills my needs.

my personaly points of improvement would be:

more flexible interface (allowing for dual monitor support, maximising of windows like the browser or midi editor, different layouts)

proper/full mixer in arrange view (could be achieved in the context of point 1)

non-linear arranging

ghost/alias clips

more control over stuff like automation and midi cc's (ability to type in values for automation points)

user-configurable key commands (although you can get a long way with autohotkey)

upgraded browser (should at least include support for tags)

NOthing! it's already amazing!

yeah it could be improved but at live 8 I got pretty much all I wanted for audio recording and midi.

You can always use other programs for special features and import midi and audio. Like I do with audiomulch.

I miss a simple notation system in live. For a clip but also a way to see the whole score, when that can be applied anyway...

mappable start/end points in Simpler

Post by hiphopdontstop » Tue Oct 13, 2009 4:53 pm

You know what I want MOST in Ableton?

A way to assign THESE ARROWS to a couple midi controller knobs.

So simple, but why haven't Ableton done this yet?

I use Simpler a LOT (almost exclusively) for sample editing and drum rack use (I do a lot of hip-hop, as my name indicates). I hate moving these start/end arrows with a MOUSE. God, it drives me nuts.

How hard would this be to do, seriously?

Image

And yes, I know the loop start/end locations can be mapped, but why not the true start/end points?

i'm going to add an automation overhaul (beizer curves, absolute clip automation/recording, etc) to my list of things that are needed BAD.

actually you know what would be good, a way of going to different tracks and the activating the instrument thats on that track for Automap use, at the moment you have to physically click the track then click the device, would be nice to have an option to scroll through the tracks with the cursor keys or whatever and have the contained instrument automatically activated for you. although the APC does this does it not...?

Yes there is ye o'l workaround using extra tracks and virtual midi ports but its messy
(better now we have groups)
I'm aware that Midi CC isn't automation but, 99% of the time these days, automation involves recording and imprinting midi CC data so I used
it as a shorthand (instead of listing a bunch of antiquated and proprietary junk like NRPNs or system exclusive, etc).

Anyhow, how is this any different from loading up another track with an empty clip, recording the filter sweep data and routing it back to whatever midi instrument you're using?

1. more shortcut possibilities (i.e. browser windows, vst instruments etc.)
2. more browser windows for better instrument management
3. mouse wheel support
4. the possibility to edit (cut, delete, double etc.) audio tracks in session view ... to consolidate in arrangement is shit!
5. track automation possibilities in session view
6. own group management folder to handle whole groups of often used instrument and effect grouptracks

Can someone explain what audio comping refers to? Is it like bouncing tracks on old multitracks?

If I could somehow explain my intentions to the software before I go to bed then wake up to the results in the morning that would really solve my current time shortages, speaking of which time to log off! (i'll check the audio comp explaination tomorrow if anyone would be so kind)
