Looper "jumps" out of recording

Post by Spazi » Thu Oct 15, 2009 2:01 pm

Hi guys, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I got a footpedal to use for Looper, and I'm following the tutorial Houston uploaded on Ableton's youtube profile.
So far most of it is correct, but every time I want to record a second loop, it jumps from overdubbing to play just like that!
It records like two bars, and just "jumps" out of the record mode.
I don't know whats going on, totally confused here.
Plus the APC40 is directly jacked to my macbook.
Anyone had this issue?

PS. I've noticed that when it "jumps" out, the bar at the upper right corner indicates a "key" is being pressed, eventhough I'm not pressing anything. Could it be Midi feedback?

Have you tried using a button or knob instead of your foot pedal as an experiment to narrow down the problem?

Ok, I tried using buttons on the APC40, inserting the foot pedal to my Midi keyboard, Using the keyboard on my macbook. Everything works great, but when I try to use the footswitch inserts on the APC40 it does it again, so I narrowed the issue down to the APC40!
Tried to delete preferences in the libraby/preferences/Ableton/Live 8.0.5 folder, no use :(
Totally disappointed now :(
The foot pedal works fine with any other function in Live, Just not looper :S

PS. The footpedal is a Yamaha FC5

I've been having similar problems for some time now, and it happens whether I have my footpedal plugged in to my APC40 or MPD32, and midi mapped to the big button on Looper.

Also, when I have song control and tempo control off, and global transport set to Stop, there's a small delay between when I press the pedal and when Looper starts recording, ruining the loop. (Not a latency problem, I know it sort of reads that way)

When I map the big button to a keyboard key, everything works fine.

If I recall correctly, Looper + footpedal worked great until about 8.0.2, then these problems began.

I have started a thread in Support Corner, and will be sending an email to Ableton support soon.

Your footpedal should be set as a 'momentary CC' instead or toggle. Try this nd tell me if that works for you. That did the trick with 8.04 for me.

try to check the polarity of your footswitch. It needs to send CC value 127 when pressed and value 0 when not pressed. You can check that by leaving the pedal unassigned and record your footpedal action into a midi clip.

Or, if there is a olarity switch on the pedal, just put flip it and see if looper works correctly.

Hi,
How inverse the polarity with the Foot switch pedal on the APC 40. I've got the same problem to use it in the looper.
Somebody could tell me if he going to use the looper with the foot switch of the APC 40.
Thx

there should be a switch on the pedal.
