macbook output problem

Post by alexsg » Sat Oct 17, 2009 7:12 pm

the headphone jack on my macbook has spontaneously screwed up.
when i plug headphones in im unable to change the volume.
in sound preferences the digital out device has no output controls and wont let me change the output volume/mute.

any ideas about whats happened?! im on tiger and its an older blackbook. different speakers/headphones being plugged in makes no difference.
hopefully its not a hardware problem!
the macbook speakers still work fine, but they dont really cut it for making music!
:?

yeah ive read lots about the sensor being screwed but i havent been able to sort it out yet.
most of the stuff written about it on google are concerning when the sensor stays on and thinks headphones are plugged in though.

i dont think its the sensor though because when anything in it automatically switches from internal speakers to digital out in the sound preferences, it just doesnt have any settings/volume.

any ideas or do you still think its the sensor?

you can't adjust the volume because the Mac mistakenly thinks you've plugged an optical digital connector in...

i know! that why i made this thread, but do you need to be enigmatic/an ass, or can you just explain?

is your 'fix' unsticking the sensor because, as i already mentioned, that hasnt work.
in which case i suppose maybe this is a hardware problem.
