After investing 1600euro in a new mac Book Pro,I am really disappointed
at how unstable it is at running ableton live 7.
In the space of two days, ableton has quit unexpectedly at least ten times.
I know that the lastest version of Snow Leopard has not been tested yet with
live, but I never thought for one second that it would be this unstable

Cant you downgrade your OS in some way without paying?
I have to admit that 90% of the "I have a problem" posts come from the mac side. I am quite happy I went the other way with a 699$ Acer. So far not a single crash, glitch or dropout with asio4all.
What audio interface are you using? Any third-party plugins?

I am using an m-audio fasttrack pro with the lastest drivers.I have only just bought the mac,so I have only installed one plugin, sylenth 1.Its the updated version for snow leopard 10.6,so I dont think the plugin is the problem.
Is it possible to downgrade to an older version of snow leopard ? ?

Downgrade to leopard. Ableton has yet to fully support snow leopard.

I think your problems coming from your soundcard and not from live 7 or the os x. download and install the last beta driver for your soundcard. m-audio beta testing is not finished. as far that i know, they have not fixed the problems for osx 10.6

Yeah I've been hearing horror stories of Snow Leopard and M-Audio drivers.

Its definitely not the sound card anyway.I disabled it from ableton's preferences and used the internal soundcard
to start a new track. One hour into the track,BANG ! live unexpectedly quit again..I could nearly start crying at this stage,it's pissing me off so much. The five year old toshiba laptop I had never gave me any problems..

ok
try this. reinstall live and the plugin. install live new (the latest version). wait with the plug-in intallation. look first that live is running smooth.

From other threads, Live run well and stable on windows 7 but asio4all is not ready yet. It's fine if you use a soundcard with your own drivers but not if you use the laptop card with asio4all.

I guess we'll see if Win7 has as many issues as Snow Leopard in the coming weeks. If i were a new Mac Book owner I would be upset to say the least. Does Apple offer downgrade services? I paid a bit extra for XP downgrade w/my Thinkpad but it was worth every penny.
I work tech support for a local publishing company and Snow Leopard calls are always a pain....suffice to say the customers running the "old" operating systems (XP and 10.4 or 10.5) are the ones w/the least issues. My job has given me a different perspective on upgrading OS to say the least.

Yep, Im with you, my XP was rock solid with any apps. Now my vista is fine but there was some issues at first (weird error popups related with codecs, some windows always opening in music folder mode... idiotic vista!)
I guess there will be a lot of drivers to update for win7 but the free beta was out since quite a long time. I bet Asio4all is not updated yet because its a free open project. They probably dont have the same man power as a lucrative company. Hard to respect a deadline when there is no reward.

I have used 8 for months without any problems, upgraded to snow leopard and it crashes and freezes all the time.
