Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
http://www.vacuumsound.de/plugins.html
Haven't had time to check this freebie out.. But as soon as I read the name John Lennon I knew I'd have to!
ADT - Artificial Double Tracking
The ADT technique was developed at Abbey Road Studios by engineers recording the Beatles in the 1960s. To free John Lennon from having to sing everything twice for real double tracking they came up with an artificial replacement: they sent the original signal to another tape machine and re-recorded it. Due to the physical distance between record and playback heads the new signal was delayed. The length of the delay depends on the tape speed (the slower the tape is running the longer it takes for the signal to travel from the record to the playback head). However, due to the machine's (small amounts of) Wow and Flutter the delay time was not fixed but varied slightly, giving an additional chorus-like effect.
The ADT Plug-In takes a mono input signal and creates a stereo output. The original input signal will be output on one channel, the new ADT signal on the other. Blending the two is also possible. The Plug-In allows to control the delay time (10 - 50ms), Wow and Flutter (both with intensity in % and frequency). All values are based on the technical data of the tape machines that was originally used to create this effect.

his poorverb plugin is very sweet as well
Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
Singing thru it right now...it is very neat. Nothing you can't do with a bit of fiddling and panning, but it sounds great instantly and it's free!
NB: only the vst works in Live..the AU fails to initialise.

Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
the AU version doesn't initialize here also.. isn't this basically a chorus plug in?

Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
Yes.
But it does have a more subtle sound that can sometimes appeal in a way that a digital chorus effect doesn't - think a Roland or Universal Audio plugin version of Dimension D set to button 1 or 2, which is one heck of a sweet sound, that is a good ADT like sound which enriches the tone without sounding too artificial or overdone. Older analog choruses when used subtly sound a lot like ADT too.
I don't know how this plugin compares.
Many digital choruses have a very artificial, overly tinny/metallic feel to them. Live's chorus effect is very much like this, so for me only suitable for certain applications. A good digital chorus plugin which has a more analogesque sound is Audio Damage's Fluid, for $29 this is the closest I've heard to something like Dimension D for reasonable money (but a real Roland hardware unit, or the UAD plugin, which is a very close emulation, are still the best chorus sound you can get IMHO).

can't get it to work. failed to initialize.
Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
I just saw this thread yesterday and for fun used it on a couple vocal tracks last night. It sounds great! Really really nice stereo effect and very subtle change to the vocal. I will definitely be using this in the future.
Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
Possibly the best thing I've ever not spent $15 on
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
I know this thread is pretty old, but I cannot get this ADT plugin (VST) to work in Live Intro.
I have the ADT folder in Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST and have turned on "Use VST Plugins System Folder" from within Live Preferences.
For what it's worth, I have another plugin working in that same folder, no problem.
Any help? Thanks.

Try rescan plugins? : preferences, file/folder, rescan plugins
Re: Artificial Double Tracking free plugin
Re-scanning Plugins doesn't work, I just tried again.
I even copied the VST plug-in and put in the VST folder, not within the ADT folder. No luck.
What am I doing wrong? I'd really like to use this plugin effect.
Reiterating, I have another plugin working in Live Intro, no problem.
Thanks!
