Which Midi Controller Do You Think Will Be A Classic in the next 5yrs and not a momentary classic but a real classic within the context of a midi controller.

change my vote.

5 years isn't time for a classic.

in 10 years people might look back at the Lemur so they can remember when multi-touch was incredibly overpriced and we're using multi-touch $100 Behringer/M Audio products.

geeks will probably remember the monome for the splash it made.

are there any controllers from 10 years ago that are classics today? the Roland SPD?

None of em.

I love midi controllers, but they have zero mojo, unlike an instrument. They are simply a tool that is useless outside of the context of a DAW, hell most of em dont even have midi ports now so you cannot use them outside of a DAW at all.

In 5-10 years time it will probably be impossible to use any of todays controllers due to port incompatibilites, ancient drivers and the fact that everything they do will be done better by the next generation of controllers. Besides that, does anyone think that these cheaply made heaps of crap will even work in 5 years time?

I offer a silent prayer to the blue smoke gods every time my BCR2K powers up.

this ones not really for keyboard controllers but more for the apc ohm maschine lemur monome types

if it was for all controllers the Fatars would win hands down.

None of the above! We have moved on to other flashy fancy mind-controlled gadgetry.

Something classic usually was a classic as soon as it came out. There are exceptions (909, 303) but not a lot.
So it's the Lemur. There will be bigger better smarter in the future but it was the first of its kind.
Another instant classic: Monome.

you talking about what the promo department says? what classics are you reffering to? i thought the proove of time is essential..

not very much equipment of theese days wil have a second life ... see what happend to all this dreadfull roland grooveboxes..
or all the samplers..the only real classics are the emulator 2 and the akai s612..everything else is pricewise down the drain... nobody talks about yetsredays laptops..beside i stll like my titanium and its great display.. realy charming to the eyeys..

and i ve an old pentium 1... toshiba that still is somehow great ...

the nordmodular 1... Hmm difficult..tons of equipment..buts all crap and not close to a classic..who is still touching waldorf synths?

no no... a real classic is something that can be used with benefit 10 years after or 20 years after..

some o the newer freakish stuff th distribute over scheiders büro maybe gets in this lique..but not the plastic crap that turned electronic music into somekind of neo folk...

and midicontroler that will become a clasic? i can show you a controler that allread yis..bt it dont has midi

And one more about the apc... it wont be a classic because its not technical advanced..its using no multicolour leds for example that are the new standard of our time... 3 colour leds are pure 90´s as the used usb 1 protocol is..

today everything is marketing.. visionary things wont pass that... there will be an apc 2 or apc pro that will render the first generation apcs absolutly worthless..and this can happen much earlier than you think... so let the lemur go to the pole position in the poll..that was a visionary product..als the other stuff is... what is it? knobs in plastic boxes...tupperware

real classics are usually ahaed of theire time when beeing released first...
an emulatur 2 can do things only most modern software samplers can do... independent filter tuning per voice for example..
It came with software support taht allowed timestretching ..and that in 1984 !!
and it sounds great..still beats all later emus... so of cause it became the classic while the others passed

of course these midi controllers probably won't become classics in the classic sense, but I'm asking peeps to keep an eye on context here, under the context I think the lemur, the monome, and the maschine would be classics

Well I don't use maschine, but I could see this being considered a classic down the road. With the large amount of on board sounds and it's ability to sample external audio.....

Ableton 9, Feeltune Rhizome, Focusrite Pro, Mpk249....
