thanks for your help. your great arguments showed me back to the path of wisdom, or so :)

midi really needs usb 2.0 to have enough bandwidth, or usb 3.0 actually to transfer all those individual .. notes .. quickly..

USB 1.1 is way faster than the original MIDI - MIDI protocol (unless you've got a ton of USB devices connected at once), so shouldn't cause any issues. Back in the old Atari ST days, running 16 MIDI channels from MIDI-MIDI was fine, and I can run MIDI devices just fine on my old MOTU fastlane which is USB 1.1 or the MIDI input in my Alesis IO14.

Now if you're talking about AUDIO bandwidth, then that's a different pan of soup. USB 1.1 truly sucks for that.

With technology, all kinds of things can mess stuff up. For example, the latest audio driver for my firewire audio interface is unusable because it BSODs every time, which required a system restore. Yet others are using the new driver with no problems.

Novation can be a bit of an acquired taste, but their stuff is no worse than AKAI in my experience.

JG - tweak your system, contact Novation for help, take it back, do whatever works for you. You got an APC 40 already, so there's not much need for a Launchpad.

you guys should consider making your own midibox @www.ucapps.de. its not complicated and you can add as many buttons, knobs, switches, leds as you want and wont be constricted, with endless possibilities. i see many midi controllers that are made from scratch and they are way better than apc40 and novation put together.. just my 2cents

mine should be completed soon..

get a mac, you never have to reboot anything when a usb device craps out.

you'll need a black turtleneck as well though.
