my most favorite funky Funk!

Post by doremifa » Sun Nov 22, 2009 1:53 pm

Inspired by topic about Bill Laswell..

I will put down my own list of the best for my ear and body. And you are welcome to compliment this list or discuss or take for your own consideration from it. So here we go:

Donald Byrd 1969-1975 albums. All of them in this time cut.
Lonnie Liston Smith 1974 to 1980s. Same.
Rahsaan Roland Kirk - "Blacknuss" album. Trully, one of the funkiest album in da world (like the dude was himself).
Yusef Lateef - some 1970-76 albums. His song "Nubian Lady" is a forever-hit
Nils Landgreen Funk Unit - he is currently playing. Awesome, amazing, all the epithet will do. His rendition of ABBA songs (Funky ABBA) is so much better than the original ABBA :)
Medeski Martin & Wood - no comments. They have pretty avant-free-jazz stuff mixed with funky-soul grooves which are frequently flavoured with DJ scratches. Love this guys.
Carlos Santana 1971-1975 albums
Herbie Hancock - starting with "Headhunters" and would peak several more albums (Man-Child, Secrets)
James Brown - the guy is pretty same an all albums, but he is still a Funkosaur.
Funkadelic - Cosmic Sloop. My favorite album of them.
Barry White - some of his songs defiantly. He is pretty monotonous to listen whole albums, but some time I want to hear a tune or two from this big fat smiling nigga
Jimi Tenor - not 100% pure funk, but very, very Funky man and music. Check him out.

I am sure there are a lot more - give them to me! (guided with my tastes). As you can see I mostly dig fusion, or jazz-funk. I get tired of very repetitive and monotonous stuff.

And funk you! Brothers and sistas :D
