Massive is more sculptured towards fat leads, analog-kind-of sounds, whether Absynth is more ambient-atmo-fx-all kind of sounds thing. Depends on your needs, your music, and what you already have. I am using Absynth more frequently, but that's just me. Also be aware that there is a fresh Absynth 5 version which supports 64 bit. Massive not.

Both pretty solid synths. Have you tried the demos? I'm partial to Absynth myself, and not just for ambient
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

then why not use the voucher towards the purchase of Komplete 6 since you get that special price since you own Kontakt 3.5.. that way, you get Kontakt 4, Massive, Absynth, and all the other goodies..

Totally depends what synths you have already.

What do you currently own?

First advice is always try the demos!

I own Massive, Absynth and FM8. FM8 is the one I have used the most. I've used Massive for some fine gritty/noisy sounds but now that U-he has its new ACE synth out I will be taking Massive off my computer. Absynth is a remarkable synth and I always lusted after it but having owned it for more than a year I find I never actually use it.

So again, try the demos and see what you like. For me, FM8 is the one that continues to be of use and the morph square is fantastic!

Massive would be my vote, it's much more user-friendly for programing your own stuff quickly and I think offers a wider palette of possibilities for a less-than-expert patch designer. Absynth sounds great but is a headache to try to master, and yes, it really does focus more on pads and soundscapes. Great if you want that stuff...

+1. exactly.

Been using Absynth since version 1 (before NI even owned it), and it's still difficult for me. Massive is pretty easy (yet extremely powerful). And Massive is friggin' HUGE sounding. I think it's awesome.

Absynth is an acquired taste.... Massive probably appeals to more people.

That said, I love Absynth - the Aetherizer effect in Absynth 5 has changed my life. Sort of. Absynth and Sylenth are the only synths I use other than the Live ones now.

komplete 6 ===> +10

If it was me, I'd go for the maschine, and check 2nd hand sales for the vst synths...

massive is great, fat, harsh.

I'm selling my copy by the way, with a nocturn (I have not yet published the offer anywhere, still have to record the songs I've made with massive before letting it go ;) )

cheers

try the demos mate.

I own both, i tend to use massive for any programming i'm doing myself (coz i don't know absynth yet), most basses and leads and more standard pads.

I load up absynth if i'ma fter something really strange.

Massive is my favourite synth of all. Sounds fat. Easy to program. fun to program and is just generally the bees knees. i'd be surprised if there's an easier to learn synth thats as acapable as much as massive is.

absynth i haven't gotten my head round proeprly yet.
