[OT] Mad props to Ableton forum users!

Post by ethios4 » Thu Dec 03, 2009 5:35 pm

I just want to say that I love coming to this forum and I have grown a lot over the years because of this forum. Specifically, there have been some abrasive a-holes on here that have really helped me to become my own person and develop a bit of a thicker skin. Seriously. I have grown as a person because of long extended OT threads arguing about non-music stuff. My views on many things have evolved because of this interaction, and I no longer get offended or defensive about stuff I'm arguing about. A lot of ppl think you can't change a person's mind on a forum and maybe it's a bunch of pointless babble, but it's been really good for me.

Also, I've learned a good deal of helpful stuff, and also contributed quite a bit of help as well.

I come here because this is a social area for me, and if I see a question I can help with while I'm here I'll chime in. If there was a separate OT forum I would stop coming here. For me it's the combination of on-topic and off-topic that I love. I don't spend much time in tips-n-tricks, or other forums because they are strictly on-topic. Actually I would probably get more done if there was an off-topic forum, so maybe it would be a good thing.

Anyway, much love to most everyone on this forum. Thanks for the years, tears, and cheers!

Even though i am new here (have spied on you guys for a few months though) i have to agree and admit that this is exactly what i fell about this forum. It is indeed unique and took me a while to tune in but i would be lost without it already.

Cheers guys

where else are you gonna find intriguing polls such as "have you ever jizzed on someone while they are sleeping"? I like this forum because it tackles the tough issues.. but seriously, i think the forum somewhat relieves a little stress for me.. it's my little getaway from the sane world

I am a bit bored by the forum. But that's probably because my life is full of joy currently.

had two great gigs last weekend. family is good to me. installed nonome and mlrV for my launchpad last night. listening to Caetano Veloso a lot.

Just thought I'd share ...

The parallels are scary.

Zealots
Hypocrites
Fundamentalists
Shit music
Soap boxers
An 'in' crowd
A Children's corner
Good music
Utter devotion to the letter of the law/RTFM
Church more important than family
Perfect, blessed, handsome and professional followers
Defenders of the Faith
Those living in the past
Doomsdayers, the end is nigh
Spiritual police
Unsung heros
The disillusioned
Special clothes so we can stand out in a crowd

and oh.... we pay money to head office to keep it all alive.

Amen.

Where's the good music?!

And I meant that in both respects, the music at my church when I was a lad sucked plums (Although the Catholics get some pretty bangin chunes by Dvorak), and the music here . . well, there doesn't seem to even *be* any most of the time :D

Hehe.. always IMO :D

But seriously, just off the top of my head, I always listen to Vlantis, Fizmarble, am, whodunnit, PlasidBasalisk, UKRuss, abort, when ever they post something. Its a broad selection of different styles, skills and listening rewards. I also check in on a few of the other forum regulars but because their chosen genre is not my cup of tea I often don't reply. Still, there is lots to learn from listening, even if I don't like the actual music.

Haha, I know, good is a completely arbitrary measurement with music, one person's good is another person's Lady GaGa ;)

In all honesty, there's some bloody good musicians on here, but there's also a lot of nonsense and crazy.
