Ableton > Reaktor question

Post by jeskola01 » Tue Dec 08, 2009 9:30 am

Hey,

I have a quick question RE controlling prameteres in Reaktor from Ableton.

When i "open" up a vst in live with the wee play button i am presented with all it's paremeters as sliders, however when i open up a reaktor ensemble they are all blank and i can't control anything in it... how do i assign say a cutoff or a slider/knob in reaktor to one of these blank sliders?

Hope that's clear

Thanks.

In the Reaktor device Live window, click on the little triangle so that it points right.

'Configure' appears.

Now click and move a Reaktor control and it will appear in the list.

The automation id must be less than 128. If not, go to the Instrument Properties and click on Compress IDs.

If there are more than 128, you can only control the ones less than 128, so manually adjust the numbers.

It's not in Live 5.

Not sure what to do now. But if you compress the IDs there may be less than 128. Then it will work.

compress the IDs
???? is this in the manual??
Never heard of this

I would have thought you can open up the ensemble and assign a midi number to a parameter that simply corrensponds with the live gui slider?

Nothing is ever simple eh

I don't have Live 5 installed, but I did try this on Live 6 and I think it is the same.

If you want to use MIDI Learn, in the Live device where Reaktor live, click the little triangle so it points to the left.

Then all the automatable parameters appear.

Then click the MIDI button in Live and assign a MIDI controller.

The 128 parameter thing is when more than 128 parameters are controllable.

As I understand it, Live did not show them in Live 5 if there were more than 128.

It is pretty rare for an ensemble to have that many controllable panel elements.

What may happen is that as the ensemble gets built, panel elements are assigned sequentially, but the designer changed a lot, so the numbers got high, but there are gaps.

The compress IDs is in the Instrument properties under IDS. It is documented in section 7.1 of the manual.

in reaktor's property, go the connection tab (not sure how it's really called. it's the far right tab with the 2 squares connected to each other icon),
go down to automation, uncheck "hide names", in the drop down ID menu > sort an compress ID, then make sure the Max ID is higher than the Max ID in use.

does it show now ?

edit: choose "instrument up" in the ID menu till the Base ID on the left will show 0 . i think this should help too. what it actually does, is placing the instrument's range of ID's, in the ensemble, up or down.

It looks as if a page is missing out of the R5 manual- it's explained in the R4 one. However, that's what you do. You have to make sure that
1) the control you wish to enable is enabled for automation (last page of the control's properties), and
2) that the ID's under 128 if your Live version's pre- v8.
