Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking, Anyone Read It?

Post by robfoster » Wed Dec 09, 2009 9:56 pm

Has anybody here successfully quit smoking after reading this? I had it recommended to me by two different people, having tried nrt with very little success (i've been trying to give up smoking for the best part of twenty years) i thought id give it a go, after the first read, i thought id been a little brainwashed by it, i was convinced that i would never smoke again, i lasted a week before i had a cigarette, i did'nt enjoy it, and decided to read the book again, that was five months ago, and i'm still not wanting to smoke, i know its early days, i've had plenty of false dawns, but i've always wanted to go back to it before, this time i don't, i just thought id share this.

Good stuff. I gave up smoking a few years back by using sheer stubbornness!

The thought of smoking now turns my stomach. Cant believe I used to do that to myself.

I know a lot of people struggle with giving up so if you can find something that works for you then good stuff.

Jedi mind trick to stop smoking (I quit 7 years ago)

1) Quit and fail
2) Quit again and remember what a bitch it is to quit
3) Realize you don't want to do that ever again
4) That is your motivation to never smoke again

It took me two attempts to stop smoking using Allen Carr's ideas. The second time seems to have worked - I haven't smoked for 15 years, and I was a heavy smoker before that. I haven't missed smoking at all.

There were two things that helped me enormously. The first was Carr's revelation that you aren't "giving up" anything, but gaining. Gained health, money, fitness. The second was a renewed interest in cycling.

Read it, gave up for a month or so, started again for another year or so... then quit myself by going complete cold turkey.
Not had one cigarette since nov 29th last year 8) :) HAd to quit the booze for a few weeks too mind you, but after the first couple of months it was fairly easy.

The Alan Carr book definitely works. Don't go "testing" yourself just don't ever light another up ever again.

Didn't work with The Easy Way, so I tried The Only Way to Stop Smoking, also by Allen Carr. That was nine years ago now and I can honestly say I've never wanted one since. Didn't even have the cravings - the man was a genius!
