OT: network genius'

Post by funky shit » Thu Dec 10, 2009 12:13 am

Why is it, that some sites will load sometimes, but not others.
The site im talking about, is rapidshare.com.
Tried two web browsers, tried two different computers.
The site just will not load but it was working perfectly last night.
Getting fed up, happens quite a lot.
Our setup is a modem/router.

Could be your isp is having dns problems, try setting your modem/router to use opendns, or some other dns provider
open dns server addresses are
208.67.222.222,
208.67.220.220

Could be your isp is blocking rapidshare.
Could be you have a dodgy modem/router.
Could be you have a virus/trojan on your system.
Could be any number of things in fact.
BTW a modem and a router are 2 seperate things usually, although some routers also contain a modem.

not that i'm a genius, but i would suspect the DNS servers - most likely you have not specified a DNS server, and your ISP uses it's own (which are automatically entered into your own internet settings when you select DHCP, rather than setting things up manually). sometimes ISP DNS servers can take a while to get fully up-to-date.

so, switch your DNS entries to a good public DNS server - there's a list here and see if that doesn't help things.
