Yip,
I posted a reply on the end of this but it didn't send.
I also changed the thread title to reflect how it is now. . .
Anyway, I started this thread cos Live wasn't working at all for quite some time.
Happily it's working just fine these days with only the occasional glitch (mostly related to running 2 uad cards in my rig).
Happy days!

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

I would have agreed until two days ago.
8.1.3 crashed 3 times in last 24 hours whilst updating an old project now saved in 8.1.3.

Using 8.1.3 on Leopard with a Macbook Pro (Penrynn - that's the last Macbook Pro that's still ALL silver and RIGHT before unibody).
I have virtually NO problems and haven't experienced any difference in anything since upgrading to 8 from 7 about 2 months ago.

Cacti,
Check how much ram you are using, Ableotn gets very unstable above 2.x gigs of ram.
There isn't anywhere that tells you this unfortunately but it's pretty much the only reason my system falls over these days. And I use loads of different au's / plugs.

is there a way way to limit a computer's RAM use?? to make sure live does not venture into the +2gb of RAM (which is absurb) for a VST HOST

The thing I don't get is why people who use windows are so opposed to macs. Both took a lot of time and skill to write. I mean...you can buy a macbook pro and run windows on it. I just don't get the hate...HeadrickProductions wrote:I'll hate myself for saying but I really wish I was on a mac....

3 Laptops here (my girlfriend an me) - MacOS X10.5.8 or 10.6.3
MacBook Pros and MacBook all 2,16GHz, 2-3GB RAM
Ableton 8.0. - 8.1.3 and only very few issues. We even sync our machines live an even the impossible seems to work Never had any crash on a gig in ca 150 gigs since 2003.
Sometimes a plugin crashes Live and gets kicked out until there´s an update.
The only issue is the unbelievable cpu hunger some of theses plugins develop - but that´s another issue and now finally MBPs are on the horizon

So far 8.1.3 is perfectly stable on my windows laptop (haven't done anything major, though). And has crashed only once on my iMac (10.6.3).

+1 crashing all the timecacti wrote:not stable AT ALL for me.

I'm having a lot of crashes on Live 8.1.3 with just opening sets, deleting devices, inserting devices, working with video, ...
Working on
MBP, 2.66-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
Serial ATA-disk 320 GB (7200 rpm
OSX 10.6.3 Snow Leopard
Macbook is ONLY used for music production - not for surfing, watching vids, pics, playing games, .....
Maschine 1.5
Launchpad
SL49 MK2 with Automap 3.4.1
Live 8.1.3 Suite
Free space on MBP = > 30 GB
Any advice ? (allready sent some bug reports)
Thanks Dennis and Ableton team for keeping continuing to focus on fixing bugs !
(I also found this bug:
When you link a parameter to a macro knob in a rack and you copy this rack to another track, the macro forgets the min/max values and resets them to 0.00 and 1.00. I can replicate this every time so it must be a bug)
Re: LETS FACE IT LIVE 8 works alright these days on a Mac
^^^ well, i don't think it is in any way related to your crashes, but 30gb left on a 320gb HD for OSX is tight, very tight.
you really should have at least 15%, better 20% left... that will ultimately improve your overall performance.
that is the only thing about OSX, it is hD space hungry and once you overfill your disk it becomes shaky and sluggish.
