MC-303 as a hardware sequencer

Post by Trypset » Mon Dec 21, 2009 2:09 am

I am picking up at MC-303 for $100. Christmas gift for myself, I'm all about the hardware. Got an ES-1 mkII, Microkorg, and soon the MC-303.

How is the sequecer on it? Will I be able to control my Electribe and Microkorg Synth from the MC-303? I have googled and am looking at the MC-303 PDF manual now, just wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience. Thanks in advance.

Steer clear of it... Sounds are nothing hot and I have heard the sequencer is horrible... Check Harmony Central for reviews...

make sure you demo it really good...

methinks that after you use it for a while you might want to save the 100 bones and sort yourself out with something nicer

i think there is a roland groovebox that you can sample with...cant remeber which one. but i would think it would be a bit
more flexible...

word. I kind of want it for what it is. I feel that it might not be the shit, but I will find a way to incorpate and make it fun. The sounds will be layered with the tribe, run through effects, into Live. I am wanting something to sequence my synth. I will definately check to make sure it functions properly.

Beware, the MC303 outputs midi notes but NOT cc. Usefull for sequencing other synths but knobs work only for internal sounds.

It's an ok unit, but as one of the first grooveboxes it's pretty limited. Roland made HUGE leaps forward with the mc505, still one of my favorite bits of kit (I'd kill to find a new one still).

can it record CC movement...like a filter sweep on the microkorg?

Ive got one, its a bit of a toy t.b.h., but ive got it hooked up to an environment in logic which allows you to change the filters etc through that. Its still not that great though.

back in "the day" (late 90's), I ended up buying the 505 instead of the 303 (even when everybody warned me, and suggested a virus classic...but I was a noob), I regret not buying the virus, at the time, but was grateful for the 505 over the 303 (although the lack of cc output was frustrating, once I began to understand how to use it, and the filters were simply awful).
