Roland GFC-50, MidiPipe, and Ableton Setup?

I grabbed the Roland GFC-50 because physically it's the sort of simple controller I need to launch different scenes while playing live. Problem is the pedal only sends pitch bend commands as I understand it. I tried MIDI mapping the first pedal to launch clip and scene buttons in Live, but it just shows PB/1 in the map browser and then won't launch the clip.

It looks like MidiPipe is the best workaround for OS X, and I'm currently trying to figure out just how.

I'm wondering if anyone has got this working or might know off the top of their head how to do it, which would save me some time and headache. I've seen some similar questions on the forum but no one has shared a how-to or a success story yet. I'll reply to this post with an update if I get it figured out.

You i made this patch a year ago. Uploaded it for you.
Just change the input and you are good to go. Also included a list. Recomend you to get an expression pedal and maybe a sustainpedal for momentary button.
Really cool pedal. I use it all the time. Only bad thing is every time you change bank og change the a/b the button you just pushed get used again.

My workaround for this is to not map anyhing to the 5/10 button =)

Alright that was quick, but I think I figured it out. At least it's working so far.

Here's how.

If you haven't done so yet, use the lesson in Ableton about setting up a MIDI device to connect your foot controller. Make sure to have Remote set to on in Ableton's MIDI setup for the interface you're using to connect your GFC-50. At this point if you try to map the pedals Ableton will only receive pitch bend data and it won't launch clips.

Here's the MidiPipe setup.

1. Select Midi In in the Tools window and choose the interface that is hooking your GFC-50 to the computer. I'm using an M-Audio Uno. Drag Midi In from the menu on the left into the pipe window on the right.

2. Select Message Converter in the Tools window. On the left or In side choose Program Change. On the right or Out side choose Note On. Drag Message Converter from the left into the pipe window on the right.

3. Select Midi Out in the Tools window. From the choices pick MidiPipe Output 1.

Now you should be able to use the pedals to launch clips. This seems like a pretty crude solution to me, but since it's all I want the controller for, it works great. Would love to hear some more experienced users' thoughts.
