Any orchestral drum rack/impulse other than Magnificent?

Post by darkenedsoul » Tue Jan 19, 2010 7:06 pm

Hi,

I was poking around and found Magnificent in the Impulse set of kits. Are there any other ones and are there other orchestral drum samples within Live? It seems rather limited in that respect (samples) as it has mostly Dance/HipHop/other that is of absolutely no interest to me. I do have Battery/2/3 kits and would have to hunt through all those samples to find a minimum of 8 or more to build up a drum rack with that in there. So are there any other orchestral style kits in Live standard vs having to spend money (if needed vs Battery kits I already have)?

So no other orchestral/timpani drums in Live unless you purchase the orchestral kit one?

cant you just drag your samples from the battery library onto the pads in drum rack and save the racks?

thats what I did.

I was starting to do that. I was hoping Live had *more* of this vs having to buy their orchestral package or a different one.

i think battery is your best bet since you already have it.

If you are looking for more, maybe DRUM programs like BFD or fxpansion? Maybe some sample cds? I dont have sessions drums, but maybe theres more there...just toss that into drum racks.

session drums doesn't have any kind of timpani, afaik. just tambourines and cowbells.
i also checked, the ewql free version doesn't appear to have them either.

I was hoping to find something within what I already paid for/have. I don't want to spend any $ at the moment due to still being out of work (a year last week....). So for now I pulled the timpani and orchestral samples from Battery* directories but haven't put them to my loops directory on my DAW system just yet. I'll see what else is there in the meantime. But from what I've seen not a lot from Ableton (mainly hiphop/dj stuff which does not work for me for that project). Too bad they seem to focus so much on that (and I understand a lot of users here do DJ/do live stuff so can't fault them for that).

It is in one of the instruments, maybe under kits in drum rack I think. But it was there after installing all the session drums and any other live packs. I don't recall where it came from specifically, but part of the suite installation I believe.

Ah, yes. I did install that pack to my system(s). So it's available outside of Live 8 Suite.

Well I am looking at the Big Fish Audio Cinematic Percussion as well as their Stratos for dark ambient/soundscapes as two possible purchases. I am not sure about Live's Orchestral Percussion, i.e overall usability for what I need/want.

I think magnificent has been with live since version 5 or so.
Do you have reason? That also comes with a variety of timpani sounds....

I don't have Reason so that's not an option. But Big Fish Audio does have a couple nice ones I'd like to obtain at some point. Both the ambient Stratos and one of the drum ones I mentioned are on my radar. And Josh you're in Boston eh? I'm ~30 miles north on the NH border straight out of the city.

Cool. Let me know if you're in town.

I looked at your website but it's dark and scary and had to close it. Very cinematic music. I imagine god of war-type scenes.
