Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
It has been a tad over a year now since it was announced. For those that have one, has it delivered to your expectations?
Re: Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
I ordered over a year ago it has not been delivered.
Re: Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
Yes definitely delivered, I like mine a lot. Works exactly like I thought it would, and feels very sturdy given the price. My only minor complaint is that I wish the stop clip buttons were red instead of green, but that's a really minor point.

very happy with it once I trained my hands to go to it and not the mouse. I don't use the pots very much. the midi quantize, metronome, shuttle controls and the buttons in that area have been really handy. faders rule for track volume.

I got mine for Christmas so I don't really meet the criteria. That being said, the combo of the APC40, LPK25, and LPD8 works well. I feel like I have hardware again.

Re: Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
my only complaint is that I don't 100% like the feel of the buttons, they take more of a deliberate push than my monome. But thats minor and easily ignored.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

I think its great and a squillion times better than using a mouse, but I'm not sure I'll ever use it live?

Has delivered. APC40 has made me realize what a lame restriction it is that there are only 8 macro controls for each rack. If only there would be, let's say, 16 macro controls and had they therefore implemented 16 encoders for device control in APC40, that would be something. Even better it would be with 32 macros & encoders.

Re: Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
I don't own one but feel that the main reason why some people feel disappointed in the APC40 is not the performance of the controller, it's more things such as the price (especially the Europeans who feel like they got the shaft on conversion rates), the lack of numbers initially, causing huge wait times and delays on supply, retailers doing the usual BS and promising what they don't have and finally the fact that the Launchpad has enough functionality to satisfy a lot of Live users who had other MIDI controllers with knobs and faders but didn't know the Launchpad was under development, so splashed for an APC40 when they only needed the functionality of a Launchpad (which is $200 less).
There were some early complaints about loud noise, heat issues and the fact that you can't buss power the device but most users have seemed content from what I've read on the many posts on the APC40 here.

Re: Akai APC 40: Has it delivered?
people complained on the interweb?
I put a microphone up to my APC to try to see if the hum was at a frequency I could hear, it's not, there's no hum on mine. I think some do, some don't and it's possible some just can't hear that high.
I wonder which Ableton OT thread pissed off someone at Akai to lead to the pricing. REVENGE!! HA HA!!
I still at the pan encoder. that has to be the one mixer control I use the least.

Overwhelmingly.
Sure, its not perfect, but I have no regrets at all.

It's everything I thought it would be. It's right next to my MPD 32. Who needs a MPC ?
