Igloofest, partying out in the cold

Post by MacGuffin » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:53 pm

Igloofest is an outdoors party here in Montreal, three week-ends in a row of world-class dance music in the old port. It's organized by the Piknic Electronik crew. This year they booked Zoo Brazil, Italoboys, MANDY, Robert Babicz, Adultnapper, Robag Whrume, Mark Farina, among others.

Last weekend, I heard there were 7000 people there to hear Guy Gerber.

I was wondering, is there similar events in other northern countries? Are we the only place crazy enough to dance to techno at -20 degrees celcius?

:D can't answer your question, but I can say you are definitely all big time crayzee.

I visited Quebec during Winter Carnival (in mid-Feb) and the participants all had these red and white hollow plastic canes with a screwtop that featured a likeness of Bonhomme de Neige.

The canes, of course, are filled with the bearer's favorite intoxicating libation. So not only do you have drunkened revellers stumbling around in sub-freezing conditions, they are all drinking from yard long containers.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

I think Biosphere once threw a party in Svalbard for turtleneck wearing media hipsters, flown in especially for this occasion.

Thankfully it was a one time event.
