FXPansion has a VST adapter program:

But I would email them first about whether or not it will work with .dll's. On the upside, these guys are known for some pretty good software, and I've never heard anything bad about their customer service, so you should get an honest answer fairly quick.

Personal experience of using Au units on the mac is that its ok as long as your projects are guaranteed to only ever be opened on a mac. But the minute you open any project thats used them on a pc then your stuffed as live cant accomodate and load the appropriate vst to compensate. So ive ditched Au,s completely and only ever use vst which open flawlessly on both mac and pc providing you have mirrored plugin folders on each machine.
