So start funelling people - give them the info
Dear Ableton users,
Some of you have experienced and reported problems with Live 8 several months ago that we have still failed to fix. This is both painful and necessary for us to discuss. We owe you sincere apologies, as well as an explanation and outlook for the future.
Ableton values quality over innovation. Our engineers will stop whatever they are doing to fix a bug when they become aware of it. They must, however, rely on a process that prepares the incoming information and funnels it to them appropriately. Establishing and maintaining this process is the responsibility of management -- particularly us, Bernd and Gerhard -- and this is where things have gone wrong while we let our attention divert to ambitious new projects.
Our apologies also extend to both the Ableton developers and tech support colleagues because they want to be proud of software and service that users love.
We have now decided to:
•suspend all development towards new features while the whole team joins forces to address the current issues. This effort is open ended and will result in a free Live 8 update;
•make process changes to prevent similar situations from happening in the future.
We hope this plan finds your understanding and agreement. We'd like to wish you a very happy holiday season and a wonderful 2010!

No crashes then ?
I am experiencing about roughly 90 percent stability
Hangs on startup irregular pattern
Freezes on saving songs on occasion 1 out of evry 10 attempts
various irregular crashes when running maybe 5% of my time- currently running 50 -70 hrs aweek at mo
So it is very usable but not entirely stable
this is on my win 7 64 ultimate desktop i7 - i am not using the mac at the moment (duo 2 core)as heavy power use with vsti vstfx chains happening and the pc is that bit more powerfull

Re: So start funelling people - give them the info
Maybe ableton should send this out via e-mail to reach as many users as possible?
Re: So start funelling people - give them the info
I am 100% stable. 8.0.8 here.
I missed 8.0.9 download and I am not yet interested in M4L so why upgrade?
I will when 8.1.2 will be out.
However agree with the poster, everybody should send crash logs to Ableton.
I'm afraid I can't contribute being stable and with no plugins except Zebra.

If Ableton is serious about this, then I completely agree- email everyone. (The rhetoric can be turned down a little, if wanted, as long as people understand they can and should send bug/crash info to Ableton)... Also, in the "Support" section of the main Ableton site, one of the first, clearly marked things people should see is this (with both temporary info about the current "plan" at work, as well as a permanent link / info to send Ableton crash/bug info at anytime in the future. These are issues that obviously have prevented many from newly purchasing or upgrading live - millions of dollars worth. Ableton, please don't just wait for this info to arrive. As much as the online community is tight-knit, and very active, it is not perfect, and certainly does not represent the sum of possibilities (crashes, other bugs) that could occur from using live and/or other components. The quicker and more complete this information funneling plan takes place, the sooner EVERYONE is much happier, and the sooner everyone is benefitting in some way, shape or form. Word up.
If you read this thread/post and agree, please post a +1 here. Until we see that Ableton has noticed/listened to this post (actual emails, updates, stable Live), we need to make this common sense idea very noticable to Ableton. One of the best ways to do that is to +1 and +1 and +1....

The Operating System generates & saves Crash Logs. Here is info from Ableton:bodhi71 wrote:How does one go about saving their crash logs?
New to using a Mac.
Please send us your Log.txt and Crashlog files:
The Log.txt file can be found in following location:
Mac OS X:
/User/Library/Preferences/Ableton
If you experience Live crashes, please send us also your Live Crash Log.
You can find this here:
Tiger: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Live.crash.log
Leopard: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Live.crash.log_*Date*
Snow Leopard: /Users/"Your Username"/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Live_*Date*.crash.log
• Please send the files as .zip attachment.
best,
Christian

I dunno if that's been implemented already... but why don't you ask the user after every crash to send their crash logs and assist them in sending the crashlog-data? If the user chooses "yes, please send crashreport to ableton", you could open the e-mail-program and automatically attach the corresponding file or just put in the logfile as plain text. Or just send the data straight away or choose to save the log to a usb-stick for those who work offline with ableton.
I think that would give you much more feedback and everyone would benefit sooner or later....

Always the same 4 or 5 people saying it works 100%

Re: So start funelling people - give them the info
Live's been very kind to me after the 8.1.1 upgrade; haven't had a single crash.
Re: So start funelling people - give them the info
I intend to be back with Live again after stopping the upgrade path with Live 5.
That said I don't have any intention of using 3rd party plug ins with it ever again.
Max 4 Live + Live 8 + Reason 4 rewired will be more than enough.
Must be annoying though for people not having the sort of stability they anticipated and rightly expected.
