This is actually the regular version of Amplitube 2 Live (3 amps/9 stomps), which is a streamlined version of Amplitube 2 (14 amps, 21 stomps), which is about to become a streamlined version of Amplitube 3 (31 amps, 160!! stomps) when it's released. Sounds like a great deal for those who want a great-sounding guitar amp/effects sim.

I hope this performs better than it used to - Amplitube has been a bit of a headache for some Live users in the past in terms of stability. IK multimedia products in general have been an issue in the past.

This was a while ago when there was a barrage of complaints, so hopefully things have been resolved now. It would help if there was a 'try before buy' option.

(yes, I now fully expect a bunch of people to say 'WHHAAATTT ?? It works for me !!!')

Well, yes.. one could expect that response when you speak of issues generally without saying who, what or when? Seriously... what issues? Who was having them (you, or someone you knew)? How long ago were these issues an issue.

I ask because they just got done with back to back major group buys for T-Racks 3 Singles and the Amplitube series. I've seen issues for Logic users which was confirmed by IK reps, but to my knowledge those were fixed. I've heard of no issues at all with IK products and Live.

And yes... IK products work for me. :)

There are some users in all of these threads seemingly having issues with Live and Amplitube.

This may not be the majority but it's still a significant number and there are more threads than this ...

T-Racks and CSR seems less problematic than Amplitube, Sampletank and SampleMoog which were regularly bringing complaints in the past.

Come on man... on the first link, you're the one who brings up IK products crashing. Just a few posts above yours someone was talking about how they ran multiple instances of Amplitude with no problem.

Anyway, there's a demo available, which IMO is much better than simply saying it doesn't work for some people or as you mentioned in your other post that "it has been known as problematic with a large proportion of Live users"

For the record, I'm not into the Amplitude series. I'll be picking up Guitar Rig soon, now that I just got Kore 2. I just hate blanket statements like these... I mean if it hasn't happened to you then how do you know so well? After all, it could simply have been a few individuals with unsupported system specs, user error, or someone running a faulty illegal copy. There really are just so many reasons things can crash with any software company or product.

But as I said before, T-Racks and CSR runs great on my setup. I've tried the demos of Amplitude in the past (version 2 and Jimmy) and also had no problems at all. That's what's great about demos... try before you buy.

Elxicano - the first post you need to look at again.

poster kvitamin "Yah Amplitube rocks, too bad it is practically useless with ableton. It will crash the program everytime you use it."

I am not an alias of kvitamin !

The Domster himself (one of Ableton's main men) identifies a crash of Amplitube on one of those threads, so are you going to give him shit too?

All I said was SOME people had issues. No need to get your knickers in a twist. All software is going to have some stability problems, it just seems that in the past, Amplitube had more than most. But whatever, people will do what they do.

Guitar Rig works fine with Live on my setup. I have GR2 full software edition and the demo version of GR4, both work fine.

Hey, im in the marked for a distortion plug.
Guitar Rig sounds very nice to me. How does this one compare on distortion quality, cpu and ram use?

It all comes down to personal taste, but download the demo of GR4, it allows you to run it for 30 minutes before you have to close it down and open it again (you can use it and freeze tracks/flatten to keep a sound etc). I don't think the distortion in any of these simulations sound as good as micing up a cab, but it is better than using the tools in Live to achieve this type of sound. There are some pretty good sounds in there though, especially the dreamy, chimy, cleaner type sounds are awesome in GR.

I personally prefer GR4 to Amplitube 2 but I haven't heard Amplitube 3 which is coming out soon and promises a lot of extra features.

Well, im only looking for a good distortion plug, and GR seem rather overkill. However, its the first distortion plug Ive tried that actually sound good.
I demoed it some time ago. But I prefer plugs that are "small". Simple/small gui, light on cpu and ram. I haven't tried Amplitude..

Ok, ill try the demo..

OK, I tried the Amplitube 2 demo against the GR4 demo. To me GR4 sound a little bit better. But they both sound pretty good. Amplitude had a metallic feedback sound going through most of the presets. Its probably meant to be there, but GR4 was easier to my ears. Dont like to much sounds that bring up my tinnitus. GR was also a tad more present/clear. But they were very similar plugs. Both very heavy on the cpu, GR4 perhaps a bit more hungry. They both ranged between 15 and 50% cpu on a dual core 2.4. Its way to heavy for a live situation..

GR4 just crashed Live 7, so ill give it a break for now.

these are also good. There is a useable freebie in this range which is not a bad Marshall sound.
