Ableton Sucks Again..

Post by 3phase » Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:02 am

You are forced to use the beta because the overbuggy state of live and than the beta runs out in the middle of a session with no new one avaible?

Ok.. we leave the studio now.. go to a bar..and send the bill to ableton...

I've found that the latest versions are quite stable on my system (8.1)

Windows XP
Dual Core 2.66 Intel
2 Gigs of Ram
Echo Layla 3G
I was a beta tester and I think that the beta versions were more buggy.
I find that Live is more stable with a wider variety of plug-ins than Sonar (although Sonar (last time I checked) performs better at very high track counts. Although this was an issue even on previous versions of Live).

my favorite name for Live devices...

DO NOT DELETE OR ELSE LIVE WILL CRASH

I still need to send in that .als file, want to finish this project first.

the worst part is the Live Death Knell. C++ runtime error, Live locks up, won't respond to any input BUT THE MUSIC KEEPS PLAYING!! it sounds great you can only listen as it plays, hoping you can remember how you got there, how long has it been since my last save? god that sounds lovely but it has to die now. listen a few more times then a reluctant click on the OK button and... gone. why must the goodbyes take so long? so painful... I'll recreate you but you'll only be Dolly the Sheep, not Dolly the original.

reboot, go get another drink.

"Live quit unexpectedly while you were working, would you like Live to recover?" why must we be taunted with this?? it doesn't work. it might as well ask "I just raped your sister, would you like to watch again?"

/ugh.
something got screwy on one of my projects, others don't crash. I'll send in that .als.

cheers to more stable days. :D until then

SAVE EARLY, SAVE OFTEN, USE REVISION CONTROL.
I haven't really lost any work, it's just annoying.

Do you do this TD? If so, what do you use? Subversion or something? I use svn a lot at work and for my own hobby software, and have thought about controlling my music stuff with it more than once, but never gotten around to it.

I just save under a new rev

song_1.als
song_2.als
etc.

it seems .als files screw up, not other stuff. albeit I just jinxed myself. :(

at work I use Perforce, it's a godsend.

Hmm. 8.1.1 only crashes on me if I don't wait several seconds to close it after using it as a ReWire Master and closing the slave app.
I don't 'produce.' I write music.

I haz the same issue as TD :( Live crashes when I delete a device, damnit. I have to think twice before I delete stuff these days  on 8.1.1

I just hope 8.1.2 is the God of all releases
