Alphatrack + Ableton

Post by maksk » Thu Mar 04, 2010 11:42 pm

I'm thinking of threating myself to an Frontier Alphatrack, to use in combination with my Apple MBP and Live8

Any happy Alphatrack users here?

I would second that... always handy to have at least one full length fader in the studio. I believe you can customize a lot of the settings for Live, it's not quite as set-in-stone as the Logic one.

I've got one. I don't use it in ableton much as I do my final mixdowns in cubase, but it works great.

Once you familiarize yourself with it makes for very nice workflow.

I'll occasionally plug it in and use as a midi controler when composing if I want a really long and smooth modulation on something that is difficult with a regular fader.

only gripe is that when my mobile phone has network activity, the alphatrack receives interference and sends a series of midi notes out :( can be annoying!

hrmmm, interesting. Thread prompted me to give the alphatrack a run in live, dosen't seem to perform anywhere near as well as it does in cubase. The fader just doesn't really follow automations, tends to just jump every few bars as apposed to continuously motoring up and down like it does in cubase. This makes it pretty much useless for overdubbing automated fades if that's what you want to use it for.

anyone else have this problem?

Only because I've got too much gear and could do with some cash :)

The Alphatrack was great and the motorised fader is fab.

I bought it more for Cubase than Live although have used it with both.
Although I haven't tried it L8 yet as I've been using my Nocturn to
control live and now the Launchpad.
