Resampling softsynth trick?

Post by swett » Fri Mar 05, 2010 2:40 am

DOes anyone know an easy way to resample a softsynth patch so that it can be played via Sampler or simpler?

How many notes do you want to sample?

Damn, I have no idea but this is exactly what I want to do with certain sounds.

Take some crazy sound from Absynth, Massive, FM8 or something like that and make it into a native Live instrument..

Basically for stability and saving on CPU.. I don't really need a perfect reproduction, just enough so I can mess around with a similar sound during a gig or jam session.. now that I think of it, might just want to recreate the same sound using operator/analog/etc..

There are a few 3rd party apps which will create a full range sample complete with keymapping etc, do some googlizing. Or you can do it yourself by doing every 5th or so...

What do you do about modulation or whatever (i don't know shit about synthesis) just put similar filters on it so that its expressive?

and also, would it be essential to make different velocity samples?

if i am being thorough, i flatten a clip with a broad range of notes, all with a long decay and use this as the basis for a multisampled sampler patch. Normally i just resample the phrase used in a track

Create a midi clip with every note chromatically, freeze and flatten the track, then slice to a single sampler.

Would be cool if this would be a feature of sampler....Load vst in sampler, render chromatic, unload, voila new patch.
Direct wave in fruity can do this, but the problem is, it has it's own file format, can't open this in sampler.

I know. Directwave does it very nicely but the idea for me is to be able to use pc only vsti sounds on my new macbook on stage...
