Re: Your top 10 free vst list
Symptohm Melohman PE (the free edition) is awesome. (it should have made my list).
If you have just that and Crystal VST you can do a heck of a lot, synth wise.
Also forgot DBlue Glitch.
The Digitalfishphones plugins are also really good (the developer Sascha Eversmeier has since been employed by Magix and develops plugins for Samplitude/Sequoia, so the only drawback is the digitalfishphones plugins have not been developed for a while and will not be developed any further) - Dominion, Endorphin, Blockfish and Spitfish (de-esser) in particular are useful.

Re: Your top 10 free vst list
emu free sampler, black magic lite (hgsounds), massturbotar, reupcer, granuliser (all by morfiki) dblue glitch, pancake, the tom gersic filters (Hp, lp, bp), omniverb, ambience (I basically love every free reverb out there - there are so many different, a crazy one f. i. is mutant reverb!), buffer override, rough rider, and tons of different delays, crazy ones like bouncy or dubby ones like the one from arc dev noise industries.
