Live 8 Win7 64 bit and Virus Control
Live 8 Win7 64 bit and Virus Control
Hello
I'm just about to take receipt of a Virus Ti polar and wondered if anyone can give me the latest information on compatibility with Win7 and Live 8
I run Live 8.1 on a Windows 7 64 bit PC. Given Live is a 32 bit application I presume the 64 bit virus control software wont run in Live. Presumably then I have to install the 32 bit control software. Has anyone tried this on Windows 7 64 bit, and is this likely to work OK with Live?
Many thanks for the advice

Re: Live 8 Win7 64 bit and Virus Control
I currently have this setup on my laptop (Live 8.1.1, Win7 64bit, Virus OS 4) and it runs fine. However, this is not my primary machine so I don't get to test it very often. But so far, thumbs up!

cheers Araz - I presume you installed the 32 bit version of virus control then?

Well, I don't actually know any native x64 version of major antivirus software products.oneman virus wrote:cheers Araz - I presume you installed the 32 bit version of virus control then?
McAfee, Symantec, nod32, AVG, AVIRA, Kaspersky etc.
They all run in 32bit mode and work anyway (scannig file systems on demand or during read/write is not x86/x64 processor architecture dependant AFAIK).
...at least my Live 8.1.2b7 is working like a charm in Win7 Ultimate x64

sorry if I didnt explain myself well, I was talking about the Virus Control software for the virus Ti - not AV software - I believe virus control is available in 32 and 64 bit versions

Yes, I'm using the 32bit version of VC because I run it in Live (Live is still a 32bit application).oneman virus wrote:cheers Araz - I presume you installed the 32 bit version of virus control then?
I can sense your excitement from your blog. I remember how excited I was when I got mine (Virus TI polar). I had to drive 3 hours to go get it and 3 hours back. That was the longest drive ever! Although the default patches are good, you can really push the virus to get some awesome sounds by tweaking the parameters. It's really easy to do it through the VC. Sometimes, I just press one key and just enjoy the monstrous sound. Also, don't forget you can download about 7000 extra patches from the Access web site. Let me know if you have any questions after your baby is delivered.
Take care,
Araz

Yes I cant wait! I'll be posting a lot more to my blog once the little white baby is here, and plan to do a whole series of youtube videos once I get cracking with it - I'll keep you posted, and thanks for the offer of advice - I am sure I will need it
Re: Live 8 Win7 64 bit and Virus Control
so in answer to my own question, the 32bit virus control centre does not install on win7 64 bit, so I had no option but to install the 64 bit version. This contains both 32 and 64 bit drivers however so no problem there with Live - so far virus control appears to be running nicely in Live (and Reaper) but wont run standalone for some reason
In any case I am blown away by the virus, it is a work of art and german quality, a joy to program both from the synth itself and from virus control - yes it is a digital sounding synth and it doesn't sound particularly analogue (which might upset some people) but for my purposes it is perfect - I will be posting more to my blog as soon as I can pull myself away from it, and hope to get some youtube clips going soon

Re: Live 8 Win7 64 bit and Virus Control
Can you post some audio demos of your new virus? I still got my virusb here, would love to hear how the sound changed with the new versions.
