Snow Leopard upgrade - Safe or silly?

Was wondering how Snow Leopard has been treating the current users around here. Thinking bout going from 10.5 to 10.6 - Anyone notice any major issues or problems (especially when Ableton is involved)? I've heard from differn't sources that it'll help your Mac run a bit smoother & faster---Anyone care to confirm these accusations??

I'll confirm this. No noticeable change in Live's performance, though.

Mac Pro Core2Duo 2.66 Xeon, 5GB ram

it has some issues but lots of benefits on the other side..especially for logic users..

hard to say really... the issues i had was rather with webbrowsers than with music apps...

If you have a i7 Mac Pro like me, the main advantage is that power consumption has dropped about 1/3 when using audio applications

snow leopard works great.

force it to boot with 64 bit extensions and let ableton have a whole 4GB to itself (if you have more then
4GB of ram that is.. I've got

and it's smooth..

sudo nvram boot-args="arch=x86_64"

will alter your com.apple.boot.plist to load
in 64bit mode by defaut (only xserves do it by default)..

that is assuming you can do 64bits on your mac..

This will allow you to use lots of ram... 64 bit apps will open even if you don't do this.

or you can hold down the 6 and the 4 key while you boot up similarly you can hold down the 3 and the 2 on boot up to revert back to 32 bit

Complete fail for me, I was still using Live 6 though. Had to reinstall Leopard.
Planning to upgrade back to Snow Leopard and Live 8 at some point in the future though.

Works fine. Except I have to plug/unplug my 400FW connector 3 or 4 times (Motu 828mkii) before my Macbook Pro recognizes it.

Also some issues with Column View in Finder not being remembered.

But the sucka sails!

I have been running Snow leopard 10.6.3 with 'Live 7.0.18' with no problems for the last month or so... I had no problems with any plugins when switching over either...

Snow Leopard breaks the support for external bluetooth adapters (for those of us who have a defective internal one). After waking your mac from sleep they just won't re-establish the connections to the devices. I spent hours on the phone telling the Apple support to add the "reestablish connection in the wake phase" again, people there are just plain stupid telling me provably wrong sh!t like getting new drivers. The last guy I talked to was the chief of tech support in Europe (at least that was what he told me...) and he just explained to me that Apple will not put any effort in removing this bug they introduced in Snow Leopard.

Maybe I'm the only one in the world having an external adapter, but if anybody else owns one and reads this: DONT! UPDATE! (Oh and Apple told me that "update" is wrong, Snow Leopard is an UPGRADE. That one really made me giggle on the phone no matter how mad I was

)

Apart from that I was able to get around all initial (small) problems.
