Sonitus VSTs in Live 8?
Sonitus VSTs in Live 8?
Anybody know why the Sonitus VSTs included in Sonar 8 Prod. won't show up in my vst folder in Live 8?
No matter what I do I can't get it to recognize them. Never had a problem finding them in any other DAWs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I think they are direct x and not vst.

they never used to be vst, they were DX only until Sonar 6 I believe.
Since then they were probably changed over to vst.

Did you purchase them separately or are you talking about the Sonitus suite that comes with Sonar?

Mine show up in live - however my versions were all bought from Sonitus before Cakewalk acquired them. I also have a VST Custom Plug-Ins folder for Live that only contains shortcuts to the plug-ins themselves - maybe you could try this.

Those are the plug-ins I have (which work perfectly well in Live for me), but I believe they now belong to Cakewalk and are bundled with Sonar, which is the version I think the OP has. Though I can't think of any reason why the Cakewalk/Sonar versions shouldn't run in Live.

Some kind of way, the ones that come with Sonar only work in Sonar. They won't work with anything else. However, you can purchase them for $99 in regular vst form here:

Yep, it's the suite that comes bundled with Sonar.
That's what I'd have thought, except I've gotten them to work just fine in Fruity Loops 9 of all things, so I don't think that's the case. Some kind of way, the ones that come with Sonar only work in Sonar.
Re: Sonitus VSTs in Live 8?
as stated above, these were vst and directx. Then cakewalk bought them to use as it's internal plugins. You can still get them in vst format, but the versions that install with Sonar will only work in Sonar.
They are old, but still great, and they will still work with the latest versions of Live.
There was a time when I used these plugs exclusively as my tracking and verb plugs. Great tools...sad to see the development stop on this for vst.

FL9 is compatible with Direct X plug ins, right?

Yes. So is Samplitude, ACID, Soundforge and Vegas. Sonar is still mostly geared for DX plugins, as is Samplitude and ACID etc, they have had to turn to adding VST support because it has overtaken DX.
I don't know if you can automate DX plugins in any host except Sonar. This was one major weakness and the reason why some sequencers (Cubase dropped DX plugins, Live never supported them) - (plus they don't declare latency to the host, unlike VST plugins for latency compensation).

Re: Sonitus VSTs in Live 8?
^agreed on all counts...DX was always a much weaker standard and never took hold. Even today, it seems like Sonar doesn't get VST right. PITA.
