sub-bass instrument?
sub-bass instrument?
hey all,
does anyone know and instrument dedicated to sub-bass sounds?
Or alternatively, something similar to Logic's Subbass inssert plug-in? From memory, it will take the incoming audio (VST or waveform, i think) and then generate sub-bass frequencies based on the fundamentals in the original signal (or that's how I assume it works anyway).
is there something similar for Ableton? I want to thicken up my bassline (printed to audio, rather than using a VST) by layering the same melody (in sub-bass form) below it, without transposing the audio down.
Cheers

Re: sub-bass instrument?
The easiest way to do this would probably be to play the same bassline using the operators sine wave oscillator, then adjust the volume so that it sounds like it's part of the original!
Re: sub-bass instrument?
This sounds very overcomplicated to me.
Just duplicate your bass line, drop the midi an octave and use a synth to generate a square wave and filter it. Some use pure sine wave.
If you want to print the full bassline to audio then just route both track to an audio channel and record.

Re: sub-bass instrument?
is he maybe talking about using a "sample" of a bassline?

MDA or smartelectronix (i think) make a freebee which is pretty good, there isn't anything built into live that will do it. If you want to get hacky though, dupe the bassline, EQ everything out of it but a band in the low end and boost with a good EQ and mix to taste.samtastic wrote:hey all,

Re: sub-bass instrument?
Sometimes doing this can work - paradoxically its a hipass filter: gives it the bump, then the steep roll-off...

Re: sub-bass instrument?
simpler with sine-wave is a good one, I did one using a single cycle wave taken from an 808-bd-sample, following this post here: http://www.dubstepforum.com/sub-bass-t6 ... ml#p916665
And it's looooooooow.

Re: sub-bass instrument?
I do this all the time, (add sub bass), using the autofilter plug in. Sometimes I pitch the wav down an octave, sometimes you don't have to. Just find the sub bass signal, increase the resonance, increase the volume, mix to taste with the O.G. bass and Boo-Yah!
Peace!

Re: sub-bass instrument?
use a vocoder or grain delay as a pitchshifter or multiband compressor to really amp the low frequencies.

Re: sub-bass instrument?
i use the free MDA SubBass vst in an effects rack. its no MaxxBass, but it's free, and with careful tracking of the threshold, can do a pretty decent job.
the SubBass vst is included in the MDA pack: http://mda.smartelectronix.com/
and here's my FX rack: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/78200/MO-SUB%20 ... CK.adg.zip

Crysonic's New BV2 is a much cheaper (than Waves Maxxbass), plugin which can achieve this, again, not quite as flexible or good as Wave's Maxxbass but good value for money and does the job.
