That is great Ableton . You are still the company that is close to its customer. congrats !

As an amateur [l]user, I'm in a great position. Power users hold Ableton's feet to the fire and raise the bar extremely high in terms of their expectations of performance, stability and functionality. For people like me, an occasional bug or crash is no big deal, but for the pro or semi-pro it is. So the application ends up better.
I was surprised to read the beginning of this thread that there were no release notes; since by the time I got to downloading the update the notes were already up. I didn't realize it was because of the agitation of the demanding users here. As someone pointed out; at least Ableton is still listening to their customers.

Not to nitpick in any way (personally I still think this is a waste of time) but you left something out.

When going over the user account licenses in the preference screen it used to list all your software instruments, effects and expansions. Now all it says is "Live 8 + 11 instruments" instead of actually listing the lot.

So something changed there as well ;-)

Edit: don't get me wrong here; I recognize and fully respect the effort put into this, I just question the usefulness ;-)

Guy, the changelogs have been re-instated.
You say you're not nitpicking, but you are. And with the weakest possible premise.

Hi ShelLuser,

Are you questioning the usefulness of this change to the preference screen or the usefulness of the release notes?

In re: the preference screen, we feel that the web is the best place to see license information, and that this list in the software was starting to look bloated and unwieldy. That being said, the whole topic is under review.

In re: the release notes, it is simply not possible to provide a byte-for-byte list of changes from one version to the next. No company can do this. Release notes will always be some kind of consolidation of possible information.

Best,

@ at ShelLuser don't mind the guy stroking his wee little wee.

when he's not checking under rocks hoping to find turds he likes to sit in his lonely world and scoff at everyone else for not being angry little leprechauns too.

being practical has nothing to do with this narrow perspective.

some of the things mentioned that crash live seem realy weird, it boggles my mind just trying to wrap my head arround how the programers would even account for senarios like that in the first place let alone fix problems like that.

well done guys for the continued efforts.

I have to say "thank you!" but also - like it said in the poll -
"this should go without saying!". Good that we have it back
like we were used to and like it is useful !

This changlog shows me some things:

First: How should I - if I was Italian - know that everything
is now available in Italian when there is no changelog? That
is a thing I definetely do not test for like I perhaps would
for certain bugs I reported. Just one example of the usefulness
of changelogs in terms of improvements to the software.

Second: Wow, that's a pretty long list ! Or have you just been
extra precise in this changelog ?

Third: In the last updates there were still many fixes for
"simple" bugs like "When you do X Live crashes" - now it seems
it goes more in depth like "When you do X while Y and Z Live could
crash". This gives me hope...

au contraire mon fraire, being practical has everything to do with it.
Hence the changelogs being re-instated. You've read the 8.1.3 changelog. Haven't you ?
Go ahead, admit it. But you don't have to thank me for consolidating popular opinion. Really, it's ok.

It was good to see the release notes. I am certain there are a few fixes that were causing crashes for me.

THANKS ABES!
