Macbook Monitor Question- close laptop and use external Mon?
Macbook Monitor Question- close laptop and use external Mon?
is there a way to close the macbook monitor without turning off the computer or putting it in hibernation and just use my external monitor? I'd like to be able to do this on the windows side as well as the osx side if possible. is there a feature for this or do i need special software?

if you run a third party app like insomniac it's possible.
Apogee Duet 2, Jam / Macbook Pro - Lion / Waves RenMaxx / Suite 9

thank you scotty, I was hoping that I wouldn't need a third party app to do this.

uhhh - when i plug my mbp into an external monitor and close the lid it just automatically uses the external as its main.

if you close the lid and have it connected to a monitor you may need to click the mouse or external keyboard if you have one, this puts it in clamshell mode.

but be careful, i don't know which model you got, but the pre unibodies have severe heat issues when they are operated closed.
