Depends on how well your laptop ventilates, I'd say - and also on how HDD-intensive your live sets are.
I have a 7200 RPM drive in my Macbook Pro, and, well... djsynchro?

hehehe yeah, Macs probably have better ventilation... that's true.

anybody know for PCs?
If the performance is worth it but it gets hot maybe just a laptop cooling unit could do the trick.

Looks like a great compromise between speed and capacity.
Don't know if I want to be the one to beta test it for audio though.

not here, and that's with two 7200rpm drives on a PC laptop.

only overheating was that the 5 or so year old battery wouldn't hold a charge any longer so the charging circuit was running 100% ALL THE TIME causing overheating issues. new battery solved it.

I recently upgraded from 5400 to 7200 on a PC laptop, and I believe the 7200 is significantly hotter. But I've got a new laptop cooler which has taken care of that.

Nah, it's not really any noisier than the inbuilt laptop fans. Possibly even quieter. Though different models create different volumes. The laptop fans don't come on as often as they used to. This is the one I currently have:

I used to have the Antec laptop cooler, which was fine until the USB connection broke, though I believe the Antec was noisier. The Logitech one has a curve in the middle of it, which creates a space for air to circulate underneath where the hard drive is. It's noticeably cooler than without it. Using the Speedfan software to monitor temperature, it currently states it is 35C, whereas previously it would get up to 50-55C.

That's what happens when you wear a turtleneck all the time.
