Live Library on external drive - management.

Post by Ninja-Matic » Fri May 21, 2010 2:51 pm

I'm getting increasingly bored with copying my Desktop's library to my laptop's library so I can have all of my custom instruments, samples, etc.

If I put the library on an external drive - work with it on my desktop - creating instruments, sample banks, etc - can i just plug that HDD into my laptop and point ableton to that library folder and have everything I worked with on my desktop - on my laptop now via the external?

Trying to cut down on copying time from doing studio work then performing live.

Coolness. Will it require a complete re-install or do I just move my main Library to the external and just point Ableton in that direction on the next startup?

Thanks for the info.

simply point live to the new library path and you're set. works the same on any computer but then you should watch out for what version of live is used. if older than what you work with, the library will be incompatible. if newer than what you have, the library will have to be "updated" by live and will be rendered unusable by older versions.
