What I like about all these features is all the speculation as to how they will integrate into the workflow.
The truth is, many of us may be using these tools for applications we hadn't even dreamed of (ie blocks). I mean, if they're going to dedicate an entire preview day for something as seemingly boring as "blocks" then I'm sure they have some sort of bigger, more important use in the future. Like many others, the first thing I thought of was "scenes".
That said, I'd imagine that they're also trying to get into the live performance tool market as well, if anything for creative functionality. If you could launch blocks in Kong, redrum patterns, rex loops, and so on, that kind of changes the way that people will go about their sequencing in Reason, at least it will change it for me.
Kong, by the way, looks great. Long live Redrum.
And I don't know if I'll ever use Neptune as an Auto-Tuneish device, but relish the idea of having a decent sounding MIDI-based harmonizer for whatever (but could never rationalize dishing out for Melodyne). Now it's just included with the price and therefore I'll probably end up using it as a result.
Dr. Octorex I'm a little less excited about, as I don't tend to use multiple variations of a loop in a song . I usually import it into Live and chop it up for variation. Again, I'm just speculating. I'm sure I'll find some indispensable functions as soon as I start messing around with it.
Oh, and they now have self-contained songs (like ableton's projects) so that looks tidy. And BOUNCE CLIP TO SAMPLE!!! This is going to save me hours and hours and hours or editing, rewiring to live, etc. This is a huge workflow improvement for me.
And live sampling. I dunno. I think Live's been pretty good for me for this. But who knows, with all these new features I may rethink the way I approach using Reason.
For so many years Reason users had to work around the external audio but now, after many DAWs battled it out for years and years, they're able to pick from what they consider the best ideas for bringing in audio and now they're just starting to implement it.
Good times for Reason users.
