What Percentage of Your Sounds and Effects Come From Ableton
What Percentage of Your Sounds and Effects Come From Ableton
Do you produce with your song mostly with Ableton sounds and effects or third party VST and and third party effect processors?
My productions are 90% Ableton.

Sounds 30-60% (Suite has quite a lot of useful content) depending on the project. Many virtual synths for electronic projects means Live's devices are used less than when I'm doing pop/rock productions, where stuff like the EIC sounds/instrument racks, Electric and Tension come in handy.
FX - 15-20% mostly EQ8 and Compressor only on tracks, everything else 3rd party.
As a compositional / host DAW - about 85% of my tracks. Most of what I write in all genres starts off in Live.
As a DAW for mixing/mix finalizing - about 30%, I mostly use Cubase 5 which is IMO better suited for this.

I use Live for virtually everything. The only other software I use is Guitar Rig. I spend a lot of time creating instrument and effects racks in Live and can happily get practically any kind of sound I require. To be honest, I dislike using VSTs. I've used good sounding ones in the past that haven't played nicely with Live, so that is a factor in why I now work harder to stay within Live. I also prefer the integration with Live's own devices. I have some Kaoss Pads and external guitar FX, but they are rarely used.

10% - 20% ableton.
i totally dislike the plugs (well, i just have much better ones to choose from), and the library i didn't found great either, compared to other sources i have.
they are not really bad, bad (not really wow! either though)... i just have better choices all around.
what i really like about ableton is the session view / clips.

Sounds : 13,8% if you consider operator homemade sounds.
Effects : 90%. The rest is plogue bidule, and KT Granulator.

Sounds: about 30% - mostly Operator. The other 70% is samples and hardware synths.
Effects: about 60% - mostly midi effects and tweaked racks, though it's getting less and less as I discover new 3rd party SW.

Re: What Percentage of Your Sounds and Effects Come From Ableton
Sounds: varies from project to project, but Operator is always an integral part. 10-20%, perhaps.
Effects: 98.3 percent. You can do so much with Live's built in effects, so I don't bother too much with VST's.

i don't want to break a huge discussion loose, but i personally think that live's onboard effects are the main reason for the still widespreadsporkles wrote:You can do so much with Live's built in effects, so I don't bother too much with VST's.
'live's audio engine sucks' perception (and the not to great warping algos). once you discover what some 3rd party plugs are like... then... the perception towards live's plugs changes.
i honestly don't think they are that bad, just not really great either.

Sounds = Roughly 10-30%, typically I use Omnisphere, Synplant or Zebra2.
Effects = 90%, Live's work fine for my needs most of the time. I have the wonderful sounding Uhbik plug ins, but rarely use them for some reason.

Re: What Percentage of Your Sounds and Effects Come From Ableton
I do almost everything exclusively in Ableton now, either with operator or with home made samples, the only vst i sometimes use is Ozone on the master but I am the first to admit I am clueless as to the internal workings of Ozone and rely on tweaked presets.
I already went the route of buying endless VSTs and hardware when i used Pro Tools and to be honest, all I ended up with was a bunch of similar sounding synths and effects that I never got round to fully exploring. So now with Ableton I set a self imposed rule, I don't buy any other gear unless it is something that would really improve my workflow (ie my APC 40) and definitely no soft synths/effects until i have properly explored everything that Ableton can do, so that won't be anytime soon then.

About half the percent comes from my usage.
