Hi,

Im planning on buyin a MacBook Pro 13 -inch, I have two options one is the

2.4 GHZ and the Other 2.66 GHZ ..... Can anyone give me a reason why I should go in for the 2.66 GHZ cause i feel 2.4 GHZ is good enough for Ableton Live! I find that, other than Processing Power i dont think there is much to compare right???Or is there a lot of difference between the two in terms of "Processing Power "when its paired up with ableton live and a midi controller?

The minimum System Requirements for Ableton Live software(running on Mac) is-
Mac: 1.25 GHz G4/G5 or faster (Intel Mac recommended), 1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended), Mac OS X 10.4.11 (10.5 or later recommended)

Please let me know what you feel ,Thanks!!

Naturally, it depends on what you're planning to do with Live. Generally more processing power is always better choice. Then again, upgrading that chip isn't such a big deal. I ran Live 7 for 2 years on my early 2006 MacBook, and the lack of processing power never stopped me making music. Instead of chip upgrade, I'd put my money on maxing the RAM to 4 gigs.

Yeah, it's like, I was thinking that I'd cheer up my Ableton Live by buying it a Ferrari to play with.

Hi,

For the difference in price, take the 2,4Ghz (it's not a big difference in power..)

Best

2.4 should be fine, I can't imagine you'll feel the difference between 2.4 and 2.66 unless you're doing a lot of video rendering.

this thread is just dying for my comments.. and as much as i want to tell him what i really think, i'll lay off this time.

if you absolutely have to get a macbook pro, you are wasting your time and money by limiting yourself to the 13" core2duo. at the very least, get yourself a 15" with an i5 CPU. it is a much better processor. here are some comparisons between the older 15" MBP with the core2duo cpu and the new base model 15" i5.

Agreed, I definitely wouldn't want the C2d chip either, you just know they are going to update it to i5 the next time around.

Sorry for that, but why you dont buy a Win7 Notebook with newest Intel CPU? This will give you big power, a stable system and support for the most virtual Instruments. Pro Books seems too expensive....

cheers

Don't get me wrong, a c2d chip is MORE than fast enough to run Live, doens't matter if it's a MBP or the Mac Mini. I just personally wouldn't want to pay the premium price for a MBP when it's kind of underpowered compared to not only the rest of the line, but other laptops as well.

this...

but then i wouldn't pay the price for a mac in the first place when i could get a lot more for my money.

Paying top dollar for a new 13" MBP is questionable right now. The Core 2 Duo is four years old.

As a rule, I never pay extra heaps of money for the faster processor. I recently bought a 2.4 gHz i5 MBP. There were more expensive and slightly faster processors available, but I opted to put extra money into the anti-glare display.
