I've previously had a simpler-track play a sample with midi from another simpler. This was to layer different snare sounds. They were in a group - not that I think it has any importance.
I now wish to make a simpler trigger a sample with input from an impulse sub-track. I think the problem is that the sub-track is not a midi-instrument.
The way I see it, the oppurtune goal would be getting midi in from a subtrack in impulse.

set midi input to receive from the impulse track..set monitor to 'in'

That's not the answer as that is what the sub-track already does. I wish for a simpler to receive the signal from a sub-track and trigger the sample from that.

ok...I didn't quite understand yet...
if so then you need something to "translate" audio impulses to midi messages
