Arturia soft-synths... opinions & user feedback please

Ok, first of all...
1: I am indeed going to check out the demos (15 day trial)
2: I already have a syncrosoft dongle. Not an issue.
3: they're doing a 2-for-1 special offer until the end of August

the four I'm mainly interested in are Prophet V - CS80 - Arp2600 - Moog Modular
and is anyone using an educational license ? there's no mention of stipulations on the website like not being allowed to resell the license at a later date

so, opinions are like arseholes...everybody has one. So let's hear yours...

Would have been better if it was one of the more disgusting clips where you actually see a close-up of some guy's Y-fronts as he almost certainly follows through on a wet-fart.

I have the Prophet V (from the synths you are interested in), I got it on a standard license (not edu) when they had a similar buy one get one free download a couple of years ago (actually 2007).

I think it's a great synth, it's dead easy to program, sounds a lot like the real thing (I have heard the real thing), has recreations of the original presets and many others made by top synth designers. TBH, I've never heard a real Prophet VS, but you get the Prophet VS included and I like many of it's early wavetable sounds, a bit like a primitive Korg M1 (but with less wavetables and different filters). And finally, you can layer a Prophet V and VS together in what is called 'hybrid' mode. This is really cool for building pads and/or ambient sounds.

Although I have many virtual synths, Arturia's Prophet V features in a lot of my tracks. It does some great lead and bass sounds too. I recommend you demo it. I have also found them to be decent customer service wise, although I have read of a couple of others who didn't get great service.

The Prophet V is also probably the best Arturia softsynth for CPU load, although the Hybrid mode (stacking a V with a VS) can be a bit CPU intensive on some patches. Bottom line - I wouldn't sell mine, even though I'm broke. I also think it sounds much better than the Pro-53, which I also have and rarely use.

I remember i used the arp2600(by them)a while back. Possibly the best sounding synth i ever heard.

regarding the customer service. Ya, I've read quite a bit of negative comments over at KVR. But I don't know how to take that.. KVR folks would complain about the colour of shit it seems. Hybrid mode sounds boss, I'll make sure to give that some extra attention.

Always been intrigued by the cs-80v, mainly because Vangelis used it.

Functionally ARP2600V is clunky and was a little disappointing for me (even with the new version lots of its parameters are unavailable for host automation) but the sound is great. I'm selling a lot of my stuff atm and can't bring myself to get rid of it.

No experience with their other stuff...

Yep, I too am intrigued by the cs-80 because of certain producers supposedly using it.
Have you checked out Xils3 by 'xils lab' ? ... one of the arturia developers is involved. Definitely premium oscillator porn for discerning gentlemen.

I like the ARP2600 sounds and sequences too.

While I don't own the full ARP2600, I own Analog Factory, which has all the ARP2600 preset sounds (in fact it has ALL the Arturia synths from Moog Modular to JP8V presets but you don't get full programmability, just ADSR, oscillator speed, filter cutoff and resonance with delay and chorus etc) and so while not getting the full programmability, I don't know the full scope of the synth, but the 'meat and potatoes' of it sound really good via the Analog Factory, even with it's more limited parameter range.

I also own the full minimoog and JP8V and while they might not top your list (or maybe you already have them?) I love those synths too. The JP8V can be a bit of a bugger on CPU, it rates it patches from 1(lowest CPU) to 5(highest) and anything rated 4 and 5 will hit your CPU load hard, but turning down polyphony and unison voices usually helps. The add on 'galaxy' sequencer is also a nice feature.

I like Zebra, Absynth and Massive, but always find the Arturia synths making their way into my music. On their website, they also do some decent audio demos of sounds from each synth, the ARP2600 one is found here

Pretty sure it's the same in both Kore & Live but will check it out - it's not a dealbreaker by any means (I think the delay on/off is the most annoying cos it's usually the first thing I turn off on a factory patch), just would be nice!

I can testify as a former Prophet VS owner, that the VS emulation is dead-on perfect.

When I loaded up the demo, I was instantly transported back to my youth.

I own the Arturia Jupiter and really dig it's sound but, since I got Omnisphere, I don't use any other VI.
