Hey man, to each their own! I firmly believe that a skilled person could make a fantastic sounding album with either of the above, be it the insane room of hardware or simply the komplete software package. Just cuz it's a room full of hardware doesn't mean it's objectively better than a box full of software (especially when that box has reaktor inside!! ) It's all about what the right person can DO with that shit. So, that said, he quite well could be serious, and why the heck not? I wrote, recorded, produced and mastered my album with nothing but software! But I'd also freak out and love to spend a day or year in that room pictured above....either way, they all make noise.
