Why do you 'have' to spend it?
Re: I have $700 CAN, what to spend it on?
Save it for traveling, and you'll have unique experiences and memories for the rest of your life instead of just stuff.
Re: I have $700 CAN, what to spend it on?
Thanks for the advice everyone, I was thinking more along the music side of things but what you guys said was fine.
I think I'm going to start with buying an extra screen.

I agree with some of the posters, why do people always have to spend their money?
If you have to ask, there probably isn’t any stuff you “need” that much right now. Just save the money.

Alesis 3630 compressor ($99 US)... a favorite amongst electronic producers. might give you a little warmth that you may be missing from your in-the-box digital setup. just a thought. i don't have one but it's always been on my list along with the dbx 1046 or the focusrite compounder, but both of those are a lot more expensive.

Re: I have $700 CAN, what to spend it on?
I wouldn't recommend the Alesis compressor, although that price is attractive, it was once up in the $300 plus range. Once upon a time, the 3630, an Atari St with Cubase (midi), an 8 track reel to reel and a battered SOundcraft mixer WERE my musical world.
If you wanted a reasonable priced but ass kicking hardware compressor this baby does a much better job ...
http://www.mercenary.com/realniccom.html or http://www.mercenary.com/fmrrnrnileam.html
The Lexicon MX400 is a nice hardware reverb if you're looking for quality which is not a plug in but can be used as such with the External Instrument plugin in Live and not at an insane price like a PCM96 or their plugin bundle.
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MX400TRS/
Or you could spend money on getting your album mastered at the legendary Abbey Road
http://www.abbeyroadonlinemastering.com/
You could also try getting hold of an Otari 5050 BXIII or STuder A807 etc for doing your stereo mixes to analogue for that tasty analogue tape compression (and buy a DOlby SR unit to go with) but that might set you back $1000 or more.
Or you could spend time in a real recording studio, or you could hire a singer to work with you and/or work with you in the studio (no commercial market for synth instrumental music these days).
Much better suggestions than hookers and coke really...

Tassman 4 is $100 until Monday.
audiomidi.com have a couple no brainer bundles that caught my eye.

Depending on what you need/want one of the two is worth it for sure.

The XILS-LE is worth it, (I got it a while back when it was $20).
I like some Crysonic plugins but am not a big fan of those 2 on offer.
I have the Dan Dean bass samples, they work OK if you have Ableton Sampler (better than in Kontakt, where they only work in the full Kontakt, not the free Kontakt Player). If you want some realistic-ish bass sound they
re OK for the money but the Scarbee samples are better IMHO and have more keyswitching etc.

Hey Leeds I haven't bit on this either, the Crysonic also includes a third plug in for free. any recomendations?leedsquietman wrote:The XILS-LE is worth it, (I got it a while back when it was $20).

I'm leaning towards the Dan Dean bundle. All I really want "realistic basses" for is to add low end to some songs where the synth bass is on the high end side. So the Dan Dean will probably do, unless you have a favorite Crysonic plug in to recommend.

Re: I have $700 CAN, what to spend it on?
I like New BV2 and Spectralive NXT from Crysonic.
Some of the Dan Dean sounds are pretty good, the Rickenbacker and Gibson bass models especially and it works well in Sampler (better than in Kontakt actually), it's quite an old library (translated from Gigasampler I believe) and doesn't have keyswitching for slides or hammer ons or whatever that the likes of Scarbee has but the sounds themselves are at least a cut above what you get in the EIC 1/2. If you want some real sounding bass guitar samples, it's decent enough for the no brainer price.

Re: I have $700 CAN, what to spend it on?
I'm still crying about having to sell my Yamaha BB4 nII to buy groceries last month ;(
Thankfully I still have this youtube clip which features it in a couple of scenes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtatQU2HpMs
I prefer 4 string basses with headstocks personally.
