Dell now owns alien ware. Thus you can find some pretty impressive little laptops, after all these are designed for gamers so you know they will work great for music applications.

Last two notebooks I have bought for recording has been ASUS.

Don't know whether they are available where you are. But they are built well and come with a 2 year warranty as standard.

I have really bad experience with HP laptops.. They seem to compete with Acer in the Behringer of laptops league..

Dell, Asus, Sony and Lenovo seems to be fine. I have had some success with Toshiba laptops aswell..

my Dell Studio 15 works pretty good for me, and I have heard good things about IBM Levono also.

+1

I've been VERY happy w/ my ASUS gaming laptop for audio production w/ a firewire interface. Been using it a year w/ one crash that was my fault.

my HP laptop has been a champ, better than most peoples' computers on the forum. dunno how many times I've posted "runs great on my machine" when lots of people have had problems, that includes midi sync with Live.

on that note I've been told Asus laptops suck balls.

on this forum you'll get every conflicting view on what computer to buy. good luck with this thread... I'd ask elsewhere, anywhere but here. some people up in here know computers, most don't. (I don't.)

Dont trust much, but I do trust a Lenovo Thinkpad on the road and on stage. Im hearing good things about the new HPs. Sony Vaios have always been popular for performing artists. But you get great specs with Thinkpads, and they are built like tanks. Maybe not the pretiest, but I love them. I like solid quality tools.
Alienware are built for indoor geeks that play WOW all day long.

If you want pro, go Lenovo.

I just purchased a 17" Asus laptop, and so far I'm very impressed with it. Still getting things set up for Ableton and Traktor, but I would recommend one.

Also, my last laptop was a Gateway, and it ran fine for almost six years (before it was stolen). I'm not saying I'd buy a Gateway again, but it did just fine. Toshiba, on the other hand, has given me problems. I used my girlfriend's Toshiba laptop and had quite a few problems with audio applications. It was virtually useless. Maybe the newer ones are better.

Good luck choosing!
