APC20 midi mapping interferes w/notes & pads on keyboard

I'm running an APC20 and an Akai MPK61 midi controller with Ableton. I have mapped locators to the APC to start each song of our set. Ableton reads the top row of buttons as notes F2 and F#2. If I enable the midi track/sync/remote for the MPK61 (I do this so I can map the pads on it to play samples), then the notes F2 and F#2 also get mapped to the locators instead of playing notes. I tried to change the global midi channel on the MPK, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I could very well be doing that wrong. I want to avoid using the APC to trigger the samples because I'm playing keyboard parts at the same time, so it's impossible to reach the APC while playing the MPK. Any suggestions?
