How to get rid of "ReWire error message" when opening Live w

Post by flowdesigner » Sun Sep 26, 2010 1:47 pm

How to get rid of "ReWire error message" when opening Live while Record is running on OS X?
I hate to get messages that "something is wrong" when im producing music.

Thanks

If you have Live opened first, it will automatically detect Record as a ReWire slave application, and should ask you in Record if you'd like to have it as a slave application to live as ReWire master.

Could you explain more about what error message you are getting, exactly?

Hi, thanks for chiming in! :)

I have Record already open and then I open Live. That works perfect, except the opening message in Live saying "ReWire error due to Record already open" or something like that.
The reason I have Record already open, is because I dont want Record to auto-route audio as a ReWire Slave into Live. Im sending audio between the apps, but not using ReWire, because I think Rewire is PITA
If there is anything I can do to avoid getting error messages, or even get rid off everything concering Rewire on my Macbook Pro, I would be very happy.
I have never used rewire, and always hated it

Hi flowdesigner - here's a page on the FAQ that explains some ReWire operations: http://www.ableton.com/pages/faq/options_text

As I understand, you're essentially looking to turn ReWire off, yes? In which case, you'll want to disable Live's ReWire Master functionality - see the link above for detailed instructions on how to do this.

The Ableton preference folder is found at the usual place, i.e. ~/Library/Preferences/Ableton.

I'm using an option.txt file with following entries

-ReWireMasterOff
-ReWireChannels=0

This works for me to disable Live as master and slave, avoiding inconvenient launch orders and "error" messages.

Ok, the trick is that you have to create the option.txt file yourself.

For this open a new document in TextEdit and make sure that 'Plain text' is checked in the preferences.
Then write exactly this into the document

-ReWireMasterOff
-ReWireChannels=0

Save the file as option.txt and move it into the folder ~/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live.

Done.

What are you talking about an .rtf file and application support?
Sorry, but if you don't understand what I've described I can't really help any further..

I also want to disable ReWire completely, but Live doesn't seem to recognize the options.txt file. I've tried different spellings (option.txt / options.txt / Options.txt etc) but nothing seems to work. Live always starts up as ReWire slave when Logic is running already. Any ideas?

@phazed

It works for me as expected, i.e. Live starts in normal mode when Logic is running.

However, after installing the options.txt file I also deleted the Propellerhead ReWire software from both the common library and the user library. Live re-installs the software on launch but at this time the options.txt file seems to be recognized. So you may try this out.

Let us know if it works..
