The Bridge Demo Video
Could someone please tell me the dude's complete setup from the first video?
http://www.ableton.com/thebridge-lesson
Akai APC40 and laptop but not sure about the Vinyl DJ things. Mixer is possibly Rane sixty-eight?
Also, if you can, please tell me how/if it works if say the laptop breaks but still wants to DJ with the thingies.
Sorry if im horrendously unclear...

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
Hi mattmcook, you're right about the mixer, it's a Rane Sixty-Eight. Other than that, he's using two turntables with Serato Scratch Live control vinyl, and an APC40 to control Ableton Live.
As to what happens if the laptop breaks - well, both Serato Scratch Live and Ableton Live require a computer to work, so you're out of luck in that setup if the laptop isn't working.

Thanks,
So the Rane mixers have soundcards built in?
Is any laptop stand for macbook pro 15" especially recomended?
Do I use regular needles on my 1210`s?
Can I also play regular vinyl records?
Can I somehow integrate ms.pinky into this setup?
Cheers!

Hi flowdesigner - yes, the Rane Sixty-Eight works as both a mixer and an interface with Serato Scratch Live. More info on this: http://serato.com/scratchlive/rane-sixty-eight
As to your questions about needle recommendations and Serato Scratch Live, you might try checking out the Serato forum for The Bridge here: http://serato.com/forum/area/302. It's a great resource to exchange ideas with experienced SSL users.

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
SSL = Serato Scratch Live. Easier to write that in a forum then to repeatedly write "Serato Scratch Live."3phase wrote:SSL users? Yes, use regular stylii - what else would you use?!flowdesigner wrote:Thanks,

Of course you can play regular vinyl - they're turntables, and it's a DJ mixer!
What you can't do though, is use The Bridge when playing audio vinyl - it only works
with tracks that are on the computer as MP3 etc.
Re: The Bridge Demo Video
thanks to everyone above.
could someone please recommend some vinyl mixers then to use in this type of setup?
nothing tooooo expensive please, student...

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
Just FYI, you will need a Rane audio interface in order to use Serato Scratch Live. They also make a couple audio mixers with integrated interfaces for SSL. You can read more about the options here: http://serato.com/purchase. The SL1, SL3, Rane Sixty-Eight, Rain TTM 57SL, and Rane MP4 will all work as interfaces for Serato Scratch Live.mattmcook wrote:thanks to everyone above.

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
If your budget is limited, I would say that Serato Scratch Live
is not for you - there's no cheap way in.
Even the most basic setup (SL1 sound interface, software and time code vinyl/CDs) is over £400.
You can buy a basic DJ mixer for under £100, and basic turntables for around £130 each if you really
want to do the vinyl thing, but there are lots of cheaper ways in now, like USB DJ controllers
which usually come supplied with software. They start from around £100.

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
If you'd rather go with USB controllers than control vinyl or control CDs, you can also try Serato ITCH, which gives you a number of hardware options: http://serato.com/itch
Serato ITCH support for The Bridge has been announced for 2011.

As far as I'm aware, the cheapest Itch setup is around £600 (VCI-300).

Re: The Bridge Demo Video
for a decent vinyl setup youre looking at at least 1 grand in investment not counting the computer, if you get stuff as cheap as possible.
