Drum racks style note naming?

Is there any way to collapse a clip and have it display arbitrary names instead of note names? I'd like to set up a mini
effects sequencer for Artillery 2 with a clip, but I can't seem to get a MIDI track containing a drum rack to send MIDI to
the track containing Artillery. I tried with an external instrument on each pad, but the MIDI simply doesn't seem to be passed
on, even though I can select Artillery on the MIDI to dropdown in the external instrument.

Use an Instrument Rack, create a chain for each key you are gonna use to trigger the effects and right click in the chain area to enable the option 'Show Names in MIDI Editor' ?
