The MacBook Pro's are expensive. The iMac' desktop's are outrageous! I can't use a pc, but I'm dreading having to buy a new Mac at some point. To some degree this goes back to wage stagnation and income inequality. If they were made in US and Mexico, they'd cost twice as much, but because the economy is structured around pleasing Wall Street's quarterly earnings expectations, we don't make anything anymore and the middle class shrinks. It's the way of the world but I just wish things like this weren't such luxury items available only to the top 20% or people that sacrifice everything else for a computer. Oh well, rant over.

Now our captains of industry to be admired are the brainiacs behind sites like facebook which was basically a rip-off of myspace which was basically a rip-off of friendster which have zero tangible products they're selling and very little of the population is qualified or interested in typing code all day long. i dont know; i buy new mac laptop every 3 years or so. rarely do i have any problems with them, or have to spend much time "dealing" with them (hardware or system software). and i make my living on these machines. . so i dont think thats too expensive.

(damn, why do i always get sucked into these threads?)

edit: one caveat - i have always had the luck to be able to wait until buying the later generations of hardware (ibook g3 / alu powerbook / last "pre-unibody" MBP), which i think has saved me alot of headaches.

I bought my first mac a year and a half ago, mostly to use with Live. I have to say - I'm not favourably impressed. On the OS side - the innumerable file and library locations, the inability to search the Live manual, the broken 'finder' which hides useful results all add frustrations I did not have in Windows (and I was looking for improvement, not more problems). On the hardware side - a broken pixel that Apple refused to repair, and now the dvd rom drive is broken due to a poorly designed case. I know one pixel is not a big deal, but I have several LCDs and only one broken pixel, which is on the Mac.

Overpriced indeed - I would now think twice about buying one even at a similar price to Windows. The chorus of "Mac Love" has not made these problems easier to take either.

I know this is a contentious thing to post. But the immense frustration I've experienced with my Mac deserves a little venting (there are some nice things about them as well).
