VSTis in OSX

Hello,

This might seem like a basic question, but I can't seem to find an answer to it.
I wonder if Ableton can read ANY VSTi ?

I want to buy the Alien303 plugin from G-Sonique and it specifies VSTi/Windows.

I wonder if it means that:
1) It can be used only as a VSTi in Windows OS
2) It can be used as a VSTi with any DAW that supports VSTi's (as Ableton for OS X does) AND as a stand-alone for Windows (but not for OS X)

I know that I currently can run VSTs in Live but usually the website on which I bought them specified that it was compatible for Mac.
And I don't really want to buy somethign I won't be able to use of course...

Thanks a lot for your answer and sorry if this might seem as a straightforward question but I really didn't find a clear answer.

Cheers.

Can't be more clear! Thanks a lot for that guys. Dammit that's still a big issue with the Mac ain't it...

Cheers again.

It has nothing to do with Mac or Windows. VSTs are just as any other software, you need to buy the versions that are compatible with the host OS. Most VSTs bundle versions that run on either Windows or Mac OS. Some are just compatible with Mac OS, some are just compatible with Windows...
