Certain frequencies create SONIC buildups in my ears
Certain frequencies create SONIC buildups in my ears
I´ve noticed that some bass frequencies create a buildup/pressure sensation in my ears. I used to think that it was because of headphones but while working with a new track I´ve just used the MBPs speakers and still I feel the buildup!
I cant really specify the buildup but I just wanted to know if any one here has felt the same?

Re: Certain frequencies create buildups in my ears
it happens to me all the time to low/low-mids
like adding a half more note or something...
maybe there is a delay coming from the back
or the predelay of a reverb that could give some extra move?
or overlapping of sounds?

are we talking wax buildups ?
Re: Certain frequencies create buildups in my ears
Sonic buildups!
@IP
I dont think it is a result of the room... the same thing happens using headphones

Re: Certain frequencies create SONIC buildups in my ears
i mean if an unexpected effect is coming back from a return track or something (a reverb's long tail or a delayed sound) that give an extra move/push to the track
im not 100% sure if we are talking for the same thing ...
if i have built a flow with lets say 3 sounds and it goes like this
11--21---312-12-33 ................ "-" is gap
i sometimes listen for example
11--21-*-312*12-33 ............... "*" is that extra thing that fill the gaps when im listening all the 3 sounds play together ...
if i solo them the "*" is not there ..
it may be a psychoacoustic thing, who knows :/
forgive me if im saying bullshit

Re: Certain frequencies create SONIC buildups in my ears
Could be the natural resonant frequency of your skull.
Try to isolate the frequency at which it occurs then turn off your music and hum the frequency with your mouth so that it's nice and loud inside the cavities in your head, sweep your humming up and down a bit. If it is there when doing this exercise then it is your skull resonating at that frequency.
Short of drilling holes...there ain't going to be much you can do about that.
Although the earwax point is not a bad point to make. When was the last time you had your ears checked? get down the nurses and have them syringe your ears.

Yeah, em, I think i get the same thing. Usually not in music though. Really boring stuff like lighting a gas oven! The clicking sound of the flame trying the catch the gas. Really annoying effect. Theres a couple other things but thats the most recent. I hear really bad distortion at certain gigs with certain frequencies. When the PAs too loud for the size of a venue. I do think its deep wax unfortunately. But fortunately it means it can be fixed. Do youve tinnitus in general? I do all the time, which cant be fixed apparently. Although its quiet enough to block out with sounds of daily life, night time its much more annoying. Been very careful about listening volumes of the last few years now.

i dont have tinnitus but i might have to go to a doctor...just to check it out
